Hi Phyllis, if you are referring to the Castor Association of America
and thier archives I will try to answer.
I believe the decision was made to only track those ancestors who came
to America when the CAOA became a family association. I am not sure of
the reasoning behind this decision. I can check with the records and
see if I can find an answer to the decision if you would like me to do
so.
The Paulus book published by the CAOA, does cover several generations
before Paulus and some history of the Kaldenkirken area in Germany
where they came from. The book is still available for purchase if you
would like a copy. It also covers Paulus and 3 generations of his
ancestors.
I am not sure you are aware that the Paulus line is not the only line
the CAOA is tracking and researching. We have 114 lines whose
earliest origins that we know of are Germany, France, Switzerland and
the United States. Those in the United States have not yet been linked
far back enough to know their original origin.
Hope this helps

We celebrate Paulus Kuster and his wife Gertrude Doors.
That's to be expected. After all, they were the first of the family to come
to America and deserve all our gratitude for that.
However, I am not clear on why the earlier Kuster generations seem to be
pushed to the background and sometimes even ignored all together. That
would be Reiner Kuster and his son Johannes....and his son Arnold, the
father of Paulus. That's three earlier generations encompassing nearly 100
years!
Most families emphasize their OLDEST ancestors.....brag on about how they
can trace their family back to 15 hundred......whatever! I find it curious
that we seem to ignore these earlier fellows.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on the subject.
