Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Can anyone out there help Dave?

Dave,
Sorry for the delay of this response... my computer crashed and I'm just now
trying to catch up on my e-mail correspondence...
In my research I have found that many of the Germans who came over to
America had trouble with the various American government agencies that they
came in contact... whether it be immigration, census takers, etc...
Few (if any) Americans could speak German and thus, would put down what they
thought was the closest spelling of the persons last name.
In the Castor Association of America (alone), we have 18 various (surname)
spellings... Kuster, Koster, Custer, Kusterd, Kuester, Kester, Custard,
Kustard, Kistard, Kister, Gerster, Caster, Castor, Kastor, Koester, Kiester,
Keister... most of which are all descendants of Paulus and Gertrude
Kuster(s) from Kaldenkirchen, Germany. They came over in the early 1670's
and were related to the original founders of Germantown, PA (northwest
corner of Philly).
I am forwarding your post to our "Castor-listserv" where there are quite a
few genealogical "buffs" that could probably answer your question on
"CLUSTER". I have personally not come across that name - even though I have
been called that myself by strangers who hear my last name for the first
time.
Check out our web site at < http://maverik.rootsweb.com/caoa/ >
Let me know if I can be of further service!

Hi Ken,
I am trying to varify a family history story told by my grandfather years
ago. The story is about brothers from a German background who changed
their names one to CUSTER and one to CLUSTER. Can you tell me if the name
CLUSTER has ever surfaced in your research of KUSTER or CUSTER or any other
variations?
Thanks
Dave Harmer
Sorry I added an 's' where there shouldn't be one.

Brian,
To renew is $8(prior to Feb 10th). On Feb 11th, the renewal fee is $10 (I
guess that includes you).
Now, in addition, you can order a directory for $3 additional dollars. It's
well worth it (I might add)!
In order to get your name (etc) in the directory, your renewal (or new
application) must be received by May 10th.
Hope this helps!

BTW, I just got my computer back this morning! It's been in the computer
hospital (ICU) for over a month! You can imagine how much "catching up" I
have to do!
