Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi all, I am looking for the spelling of CUSTER. My great grandmother was
Druscilla Ann Custer married 2-19-1850 to Philip Essley. Her sister LUCINDA
CUSTER was born 3-17-1844 and married Samuel Essley. Their brother John D.
Custer married Philip and Samuel's sister Cassa Essley. Druscilla, Lucinda,
and John were children of Abraham Custer, born 1787 in Kentucky and died 5
September, 1852, in Washington Co., Iowa. His father was William Custer,
Sr., and his mother was Anna Smith. We believe the mother of Druscilla was
Susanna ANTRIUM. I also need data about Susanna. Any help about this family
would be most appreciated. Our branch is not as well-know as many other
CUSTER families. So far I have not found any posts which help me or had any
replies to my search queries. - Gloria (my father was named after his father
ELISHA LEMON ESSLEY, son of Philip and Druscilla Custer ESSLEY)

I would like to ask you a question. I have been on the list for over a year,
hoping against hope that eventually I would recognize something in queries or
statements from others regarding possibilities of my Castor origins, since I
was not able to find a crack in my brick wall. I also belong to four or five
other lists for other names I am researching in my quest to put together a
family history for my kids.
I have to comment that the Castor list is the one list in all that I have
short or long term subscribed to, that does not seem to have a helpful
interraction, which is part of what I thought the purpose was...to work
together. I have posted queries and never had a reply, response, or question
from other listers. There does not seem to be a desire to help or have
interraction of suggestions. This is not an effort to have anyone do
anything for me at all. This is not the spirit nor the intent of any of the
other lists, as well. I have done "legwork" in California for others, I have
walked a cemetery for another, totally unrelated to me or anyone I know or am
researching. I simply answered their query and felt I could help someone out.
After much consideration, I guess I will unsubscribe.
Best of luck in whatever it is this list is hoping to accomplish. If I do
find my information, I will be happy to post it to the Castor page on
GenForum in hopes it may help someone else out.

Has anyone ever used this database?
What did you think of it? Is it worth the cost?
What kind of information is there?
Is anyone using it right now?
Is there anything like it available for free?
A useful Civil War database is available at http://www.civilwardata.com/
Although the full database is available only by subscription, the basic
personnel records can be searched free of charge. Most Union states
have been fully entered, including IN, and a few Confederate so far. On
the home page, click on Demo, then on Personnel Directory.

In my friendly reminder about the dues I quoted the wrong date. The dues
go up to $10 after Feb 10.
I also put Germantown in the wrong state. It is in PA.
I apologize...Patricia

RIGHT it is Feb 10 when the dues go up to $10.
Did you catch that I put Germantown in the wrong state? It is in PA
isn't it instead of MD?
Too much data swimming around in my head....

Hi Sherlye, there should be a renewal for in the December issue of the
NewsCaster. If you can't find it you can print out the application and
send it in. That will work just fine.
Thanks

Patricia,
It's ironic that you posted this message just as I was filling out the
form(s) for Mom and myself (and the gift memberships - my cousins and The
General & Libbie... - trying to get current addresses and lineages...).
Anyway, the form says "Renewal Dues $10 ($8 if paid before 10 February
2000)... your post said "$10 after Feb 1st"...
I'm going ahead and sending Mom's, mine and Steve Alexanders (the
General)... and send the rest later...
I also talked with Brenda last night about the program... I'm working on a
draft agenda and will send it out to her first to see what she thinks and
then to you, Jean, Bernie, & Joe for your thoughts/comments...

Hi, just a reminder if you haven't paid your 2000 dues they will be $10
after Feb 1.
If they are not paid by May 1 your name will not be in the 2000 CAOA
membership directory so that others may find you.
I am working on the membership directory now and am assigning lineage
id's for the renewed members and their ancestors. It would be a great
help to have the dues in as quickly as possible so that I can complete
them all in time for printing the directory.
Also if you are planning on attending the reunion in June please let me
know the following:

Patricia,
I am planning to attend the reunion in June. I live close enough to commute.
A cousin from Baltimore may be attending also.
I will wait for more details on the Germantown sidetrip to make a decision.
They all sound interesting. Speakers, genealogy discussions, browsing the
archives and meeting and talking with cousins.

Thanks Barbara for the information. My Samuel lived in Harrison Co., VA
in 1830. His daughter Sarah died at age 15.
Thanks for trying.

I don't have anything on your Samuel but I do have the
following that might be connected. You don't say where he
lived. What I have found is from the Friends Meeting House,
Exeter Twp., Berks Co. PA Marriage
25 june 1795
Samuel Kester, son of John, of Fishing Creek, Northumberland
Sarah Masters, daughter of James, of derry, Northumberland
Not much help, but possibly a lead??
Good luck in your search.
Barbara
Does anyone have information on Samuel Kester 1812-1895?
He married Margaret A. Lee and had the following children:
Henry Stephen
Sarah Jane
Henryetta
Mary Catherine
William Porter
Elias Andrew
James Irvin
John Calvin
Julia Minerva
Ida Belle
Patricia
Seeking Harvey Castor, b. 1825 NY, married Elvira E., b. 1834 NY.
Children: Alphonso D., Albert H. and five others. Believe Alphonso and
Albert to have been born in Wisconsin.
Anyone think this sounds familiar?
Thanks
Cassandra
This was posted on another List and thought readers of this List might find
it interesting.
Happy New Year to all! BTW, where did everyone go?
