Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello all,
I just found this page on the i-net and am surprised to no
end.
http://maps.excite.com/zoom?lat=389923&lon=-765694&level=4&dest_path=%2Fc...
You will note that Cresapstown, Md. (spelled with an "s" after
Cresap) is located abt. l inch to the south-east of Jessups,
Md.
I am a Marylander and had never! heard of this! Cresapstown.
There are two schools of thought about the burial location of
Emanuel Custer b. 1754 d. 1854 (100 Yr.). You guessed
it-----Cresap(s)town or Jessups, Md. (3rd-he might even be
buried at Mt. Nebo, Garrett Co., Md.? my guess <g>). Can
anyone tell me the source for the two other statements of
towns??? Was it the Milo Custer book that said Cresap(s)town
AND did the statement include the "s" ???
Gee, what a difference and "s" can make!!!! Could this be a
breakthru??????????????
Carolyn
P.S. The western Md. Cresaptown (without the "s") is located
on the Va. border west of and below Cumberland, Md.
Hi Everyone,
I can understand Bernie's frustration. He has been a member
of CAOA since the beginning and is currently one of the 6
Trustees.
The CAOA is for all families who belong to the various
variations of Castor --Kuster, Koster, Kuster, Kusterd,
Kuester, Kester, Custard, Kustard, Kistard, Kister, Gerster,
Caster, Castor, Kastor, Koester, Kiester, Keister.
Past CAOA Reunions have always been for all of the CAOA
families and had the name Castor Association of America
Reunion ####(year). The 2000 reunion theme of featuring the
family of Paulus and Gertrude Kuster is the decision of the
Conference Coordinator Marilyn Posten and does not reflect
the (as Bernie put it)the ideas of the officers and trustees
of the association nor the intentions of the founders.
Marilyn has also chosen to spotlight George Armstrong
Custer, which will be very interesting. It is also a
departure from the past agenda's which were set up to help
the members further their research into their history and
family lines.
The frustration is that the theme excludes many of our
members who may not want to attend since there are more than
52 other lines that are represented in the organization that
have no claim to either Paulus and Gertrude or George.
I do hope everyone will come and join us at the reunion. I
believe it offers a great opportunity to learn more about
our history and way of life during that era. It also offers
us an opportunity to meet each other and exchange
information and find long lost cousins. It also offers us a
chance to look at the archives. I will be bringing the CAOA
Archive database which I am looking forward to sitting down
and helping you search through it for your information and
then you can go find it in the books that Jean will be
bringing, to see it for yourself.
If you have any questions or comments please write to me
personally at maverik(a)cwnet.com since this list is 90% for
research and 10% for CAOA. If you would like I can put your
comments on the web where, when notes are sent to me it can
be viewed by everyone.

Bernie:
Forgive me, but I don't quite see what the problem is with the update on the
'99 reunion. I am new to genealogy but from what I have learned in the few
short years of researching Paulus and Gertrude Kuster's line the name
variation began when their descendants came to America.
Also from what I understand, Marilyn does not have a computer nor does she
have the expertise to place the information on the website. Again, I could
be wrong, but still it is simply a description of what is scheduled at the
conference.
It is clear from you e-mail you have some issues with Marilyn but from my
point of view, you appear to be over reacting.
If I have missed something in you notice or from reading the update please
clarify it for me. As someone who has organized many national and
international events I can assure you it is a difficult task. And there are
always people who will be displeased at whatever you do no matter how hard
you work. I am willing to wait until I attend my first national reunion
before I get too critical.

Those who have seen the Reunion information on the CAOA pages will no doubt be shocked to learn that after 8 reunions of the Castor Association of America the 9th reunion is to be a conference for the descendants of Paulus and Gertrude Kusters. It is well known and well established that the Castor Association is for anyone interested in genealogy and history, and especially for the descendants of Kuster, Koster, Kuster, Kusterd, Kuester, Kester, Custard, Kustard, Kistard, Kister, Gerster, Caster, Castor, Kastor, Koester, Kiester, Keister. This Web page anomaly is the work of Marilyn Posten, the general in charge of this reunion and does not reflect the ideas of the officers and trustees of the association nor the intentions of the founders.
I am a trustee and publications manager. The September issue of The News-Caster will go out Monday, September 13. Missing from this issue will be a replica of the Web page with the Paulus and Gertrude mistake.
