Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Please check the Castor list Archives for information on General
Custer's ancestry. His family did not originate in Switzerland that I
know of, but there are Custers who originated in Switzerland. One
especially nice Custer descendant I met had ancestors from the same
canton as my husband's Ebneters. Here is the URL for the interactive
search.
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
Just enter Castor as the name and then search the archives for General
Custer or any Custer. This is not my direct line, but there are people
on the Castor list who are closely connected to the line of General
Custer. My seven great grandfather and Gen. Custer's three great
grandfather was Arnold Custer. Some connect further down the line.
All best wishes, Grace

The geneology of General Custer:

My Custer ancestors are: Martha Anna Custer (1863-1958)
< Casper Cooster (abt. 1830-?) < John Kuster (abt. 1794-?).
Casper and John immigrated from Switzerland and settled in Otter Creek Twp.,
Ripley Co., Indiana, where Martha Anna was born.
All my information came from 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records, Ripley Co.,
Indiana. I was unable to locate them on the 1850 census.
Does anyone have more information on these people?
Any ideas on what Church they belonged to?
Thank you
My great grandmother, Martha Anna (Custer) Zobrist's, obituary states that she
is related to General George Armstrong Custer. Does anyone have his
genealogy?
Thanks

Patricia:
My thanks again, I have gotten a lot of help. And I have given up on getting
things to slow down, it is never going to happen in my life time. Even when
one project ends and I see light at the end of the tunnel I open my big mouth
and I am involved in another project. I have got to learn to tape my mouth
shut and sit on my hands if I ever want things to calm down.
Off to take my shower, this is ridiculous, I have been up already for three
hours and I still haven't gotten showered and dressed. Did managed to start
the laundry and get the youngest off to school and Mike to work. Thought I
would just check my morning mail. Big mistake.
Heard that I may be able to get Emanuel Sr., Rev. War military records from PA
archives, going to try to write/call to make certain and will let you know
what I find out.
Talk to you soon,
love,
Barb
Hi Barb, I really liked the way you did the page. I will take a peek at
the code and see how you did it. I am just learning myself and just
haven't had the time to really delve into backgrounds and lines and
arrangement. I am hoping things will slow down soon <bwg>.

It is a beautiful site. I have linked it from our CAOA photo album.
This is a wonderful way to share photo's with others.

Hi Lynda, the directory will list the snailmail and email address, phone
number(unless otherwise specified) and lineage.
You must be a member of CAOA to purchase the directory.

Sorry to hear about Joe and his wife having the
flu. I just got over a light case of it myself.
I'm so glad you sent a reminder on the dues
since I'm a guilty party and haven't sent it in.
Total oversight since I usually send it in real early.
I noticed a few corrections are needed to update
my current information.

Hi Members of CAOA
I received a call from Sandie Lacy. Joe is in the hospital and will
be for several more days. They have both have had a bad case of flu
Last Friday Joe's heart rate was 200, they have finally gotten it down
to 100 today. Sandie is also still pretty sick, bad sore throat and
cough.
Please put Joe and Sandie in your prayers.
For those of you not familiar with our organization, Joe is our
hardworking Treasurer and Sandie helps keep all the records straight.
This will mean that if you have sent in a membership request it may not
be processed for a couple of weeks. If you will let me know I will
contact Sandie to make sure your check has arrived and then I can let
you know about your membership status.
If you have just sent in your renewal, the same applies. If you haven't
sent in your renewal, I would like to remind you that only those who are
current members will be listed in the New Castor Directory due out in
June. I am working on putting it into a new format so that it will be
more user friendly. This year I hope to incorporate the pictures we took
at the Reunion in Salt Lake City so you will have a face to put with a
name.
Patricia
This from Linda Cheek via Carol Taravella. Thanks to you both. Thought
this would be good to share with all other researchers of the Mary
Margaret KIMBLE CUSTER line:
">I found Jacob Kimble on a tax list for 1787, in Berkeley, (W)VA
>- no additional white males >21 and no additional white males between
16 &
21."
Best wishes to all and thanks for sharing, Grace

Dear Carol,
Thank you so much for sharing the KIMBLE family information. You have
been very active in this research. Please keep me updated on any
further developments. Maybe everything will fall into place before we
know it.
These Kimbles are listed in the 1776 Census of Maryland compiled by
Bettie Stirling Carothers Published by Family Line Pub.
"1776 CENSUS OF SPESUTIA, LOWER HUNDRED, HARFORD COUNTY, MARYLAND TAKEN
BY ASHBERRY CORD AND COMPLETED BY AUGUST 19, 1776. SWORN BEFORE ANNE
GARRETT"
page 102
KIMBLE, Stephen 38 (age)
Margaret 39
George 15
Josias 14
William James 12
Stephen Jr. 9
James 7
Francis 4
Eleanor 1
On the same page in a separate listing is Giles KIMBLE age 26
And another on the same page is KIMBLE, John 23
Susanna 18
On page 103 is Josias KIMBLE age 33
On page 104 is Rowland KIMBLE age 19 and on the same page listed
together are: KIMBLE, James 49
Francis 20
Sarah 2
And on page 106 are:
KIMBLE, Samuel 50
Sarah 32
James 23
Jamima 16
Susanna 9
Zachariah 3
MONROE, John
5 negroes
Perhaps your KIMBLE researchers already have this, but thought you might
want to send it on to them.

Forgot to ask Carol Towery and Connie Loy about the Cudigmeister name.
This is the spelling Chester Custer used in his research. His
information is from Donald M. Custer's source which says record of
Lillian Werndle Swanson. Has anyone ever seen this record of a marriage
between Peter Custer and Elizabeth Cudigmeister? Has anyone ever seen
the name (spelled three ways in different publications whose original
source spelled it Cudigmister) anywhere such as a census record, list of
taxpayers, etc.? I did find a marriage record which would appear to be
correct, but the maiden name of Elizabeth is given as Fleisher. This
Cudigmeister name is a mystery to descendants and we would appreciate
any help with documenting the name of Peter's wife.
Sincerely, Grace
