Pat, if you would send me about 6 CAOA brochures I will distribute them
to the local genealogical societies and libraries. My address is 4 Park

Thanks,

I just subscribed. I have what I've been able to find, largely on the
Mormon data bases, so far, is my Kaster lineage, but I need to verify it,
as I have some doubts.
Mary Webster married John Miller of New Garden, according to a number of
sources including MIller ones, in New Garden, in 1797. I know this
marriage happened, their daughter Mary Webster Miller married Ezra
Thompson. But I couldn't find it in the New Garden Records (Chester
County, PA).
According to a Miller researcher, Mary WEbster was the daughter of Joseph
Webster and Rebecca Kester. She appeared to make out the names from a
handwritten source, as she couldn't tell whether the s and the r in Kester
were s's or r's. I verified that this couple existed and lived
in New Jersey. From the Mormon IGI, they did alot of migrating, but may
have died in the county they started from. Mormon data bases put this
family in Chester County, near West Chester some distance from New Garden,
in the 1790's. Neither the 1790 nor the 1800 census puts any Joseph
Webster closer than Delaware and Montgomery Counties.
Assuming Mary Webster who married John Miller of New Garden and ever after
lived with him in New Garden is the daughter of Joseph Webster and Rebecca
Kester, it becomes difficult to trace their parents. The version I found,
again in the Mormon data bases, not always highly accurate sources, is
that Rebecca Kester was the daughter of Hermanus, the son of Paulus
Kester/ Kusters and Prudence Daurss from Crefeld. For one thing, Hermanus
was in his late fifties when this Rebecca was born, and for another, I
think I found where Rebecca teh daughter of Hermanus is identified as
having married someone else. And people are writing to me that several
things about Rebecca's line, particularly that they were Quaker, they
spelled their name Kester, characterized I think Jonathan's line, anyway,
teh line of a different son of Paulus, and not Hermanus.
There is also a problem with the parentage of Joseph Webster, and I'd be
glad of whatever information anyone here has on the Joseph Webster who
married Rebecca Kester.
Yours,
Dora Smith
Hi Paul, they will be in the mail tomorrow. Thanks so much for your
help.

Pat, please send me 10 of the brochures when you have them avaibable and I
will place them in some of the libraries around here. Thanks for all of your
hard work
It is APPRECIATED!

Looking for information on Stephen L. Castor (b. 1830, KY) and his wife,
Mary E. (b. 1833, OH). The couple lived in Kentucky until the mid-1850s.
Then they moved to Illinois. The family was in Barton County, Missouri by
1870. I believe their daughter, Luella (b. 1867, IL), married my 3rd great
grandfather, James B. Toland about 1884 in Missouri. James died in
November 1903 and Luella was remarried to J.W. Forbes by 1907. J.W. and
Luella lived in Newton and Jasper Counties Missouri. Any information would
be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! I had a phone message this afternoon when I got home from Ken saying
something about getting up at 3 AM? We both are really weird people (ha ha) so
I guess this is what he MEANT to say. He posted an update which I'm sure you
have by now. She is still feeling better but, in all honesty, I'm not sure how
long this increased fluid medication will help -- she's gone from 2 a day to 3
a day and now 4. We will, however, keep adding stuff to the list (this will
make sense when you read Ken's message) and keep marking things off!! I'm at
peace with it, but I'll never really be ready for the end. She and I have not
always been the good friends we are now and I'm glad the good Lord allowed me
to get to this point, but just hope (selfishly) that I can keep her around for
a long time to come. We are of the opinion that there's still something left
for her to day, and it may be related to the trip to Europe. Who knows!!!
Thanks for caring and for helping to share this difficult time in our lives.
She's going to love this "erotic" valve that's messed up!!!! I believe it is
AORTIC, if Mr. Webster is correct. The other one, according to your
nurse/nephew, is Mitral.
The piece sounds good and I've printed it so we can remember some of these
things when we need to write something and may not be thinking too clearly.
Nurse Mike says that flying would probably be against doctor's orders (they
actually put this on hospital charts as ADO!!) so why don't you check thru
Celebration to see when/if the antebellum homes along River Road have what is
equivalent to Natchez's Pilgramage and let's plan your trip for then? Or,
would you want to come as soon as the weekend prior to Easter for her
birthday? Jim may fly home for Easter weekend but he and Jim Jr. are talking
about it with Angel, who is at present scheduled to fly out there March 28 (a
Sunday) on the "end" of the ticket she used to get back to Shreveport. Jim
Jr. has Big Jim on line but they're having to get another service other than
AOL due to no local numbers but e-mail them about travel plans, etc. Mom and
I are flexible. Would you consider coming for Natchez Pilgrimage (4/15) if
there is nothing similar further south? Maybe rent a car one way then let us
take you back to NO?
After work today, I went to Vicksburg to the battlefield information center. I
had looked on my encyclopedia CD and found that most Confederate prisoners
went to a Camp Douglas, Illinois. In the book, "Records of Louisiana
Confederate Soldiers and Louisiana Confederate Commands", it lists "Foster,
F., Pvt. Co. E, 4th Regt. 1st Brig 1st Div. La. Mil. Appears on Roll not
dated, ordered into the service of the State of Louisiana". This is the only
F. Foster from Louisiana. The park officer made me a copy of this page, as
well as a copy from "Compendium of the Confederate Armies: Louisiana", which
talks about the Louisiana 4th Infantry Regiment, which was organized at Camp
Moore (Tangipahoa Parish near Baton Rouge). "Detachment surrendered at Port
Hudson on 7/9/1863." The Battle of Vicksburg was broadly December, 1862 to
July 4, 1863, when Pemberton surrendered to Grant. (They don't celebrate July
4th much in Vicksburg!!!) This may or may not be our Falcon Foster, but it's a
beginning, and I have the list of battles in with the 4th fought and Vicksburg
Bombardments (May 18-July 27, 1962) is on the list so he may have been there
prior to THE Battle of Vicksburg. I have web site address for Louisiana
Archives and will check it out. (htt;://www.sec.state.la.us/
arch-1.htm) I bought several books that will keep Mom busy for a while, and
we'll research Camp Douglas, Illinois. It's possible that his family just
thought he went to Ohio, but in fact went to Illinois. I'll keep you posted.
Hi Barbara, the response has been overwhelming. I will only be able to
send you 10 until I can get some more printed. They will be in the mail
today.
Thanks so much for responding.

Thank Patricia:
That is no problem. To be honest I would rather start with a few and have
people take them than have lots sitting there gathering dust.
As always,

Hi, ALL!
I want to personally THANK everyone for all the prayers and e-mail posts for
our Mom, Doris Custer. As you know, we were anxiously waiting the results
of her tests in hopes that they could operate. Five+ years ago she had
open-heart surgery to replace her aerotic valve with a pig valve. They
usually last 5 - 8 years. Well, when they got in there, they found that her
mitrol (sp?) valve was also leaking. Due to all of the other surgery Mom
has had over the years (she's had almost everything removed, e.g., "radical"
breast removal - cancer in 1970! - you name the organ and it was probably
removed...) they had to bring in a plastic surgeon to bring muscle tissue
from her lower side. There was so much scar tissue that they had to make a
figure "S" (for SUPERWOMAN!) when they cut her open.
Well, with all that, the tests results indicated that all three (3) valves
(including the new aerotic valve) are leaking pretty bad. That's why she
can't breathe! She can not walk across the room now without stopping to
catch her breath. Her doctors say that the mitrol valve is EXTREMELY remote
and RISKY surgery - takes a minimum of 14+ hours. With all three valves
leaking, there's no way they could repair all of them. Therefore, no
surgery...
They have increased her medication and when I spoke with her on Saturday
night, she reported feeling better than she has in a long time - we're
talking months! The swelling in her feet and ankles have gone down and she
was able to actually sleep in her own bed - she's been having to sleep in
her recliner. She said, "Your sister is making a list of all the things I
haven't done. Guess where we are going tonight? To an estate auction.
I've never done that!" <smile> We are still planning (per her request) on
going on our genealogical trip to England, Wales and Scotland in Aug/Sep.
Now, that's what you call having a POSITIVE attitude about things, isn't it?
Those of you who know her, know that she's been an extremely active lady -
ever since she lost her father at the age of 12 and had to help her Mom
raise 5 surviving small children and keep up the mortgage on their 52-acre
farm. Her normal day included getting up at 5:00 A.M. (every day), walking
5 miles... she takes care of about 20-25 elderly "shut-ins" (retired people
who are confined), visits about that many in the nursing homes (does their
laundry and buys their essentials), teaches an Adult Ladies Sunday School
Class, volunteers 2 days (Monday & Wednesday) a week at the Christian
Community Mission (CCM) for the past 11+ years (similar to Good Will) and
gives a devotional every Monday to the clients - most of whom are homeless
and/or on welfare, she also has baked a cake every Monday to serve at the
devotional; she's still a private secretary to Mr. Richard Kellogg, Jr.
(she's worked for the Kellogg family for over 40 years!); member of the
Mount Zion Cemetery Committee (local cemetery that dates back to pre-Civil
War and is where most of our family - including my Father - Owen Kenneth
Custer) where she actually works several days a week trying to restore it -
our current project is a Memorial Prayer Garden; she's a GREAT writer and
has published over 500+ feature articles in the Ouachita Citizen (newspaper)
- most of which are about our family and are POSITIVE uplifting stories
about her life and the "happenings" around our local community of Calhoun in
northern Louisiana.
There is no question why she was the recipient of the International
Christian Ministries Humanitarian Award last year on her 76th birthday (23
March). She was only the second non-minister to receive this award. She
has been a mentor, friend and role model to hundreds of people. We are so
PROUD to have her as our Mom.
I have named a star after her - DORIS JEAN FOSTER CUSTER - for her upcoming
77th birthday and it will be published in the International Star Registry.
They will send her an astrological map showing the exact location of her
"star"... Let me know if any of you would like the information re: ordering
a star. The cost is $59.
In closing, I want to THANK everyone also for their patience and
understanding during this time. Mom is at peace with everything. Brenda
and I are trying to be... however, it's not easy. The frustrating thing is
there's nothing we can do but to put her life in God's hands. We are ones
who believe that "quality" life is the most important. Having great parents
and a wonderful (older) sister and 2 great nephews is the best thing I could
ever hope for.
Keep those prayer lines going...
Love to all of you!

Hi Patricia,
Marilyn Posten called me last week & said she could use a lot more (but she
didn't specify a number). There are several societies & places she said
were willing to display.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi Brenda, I will put them in the mail tomorrow.
How is your mom doing? I haven't heard from Ken at all. People are
asking me for an update.

Hi Members of the Castor Association of America and any one else that
might be interested. I have just printed up some new brochures and
membership applications for the CAOA and wondered if you might be
willing to take some to your nearest genealogy society or library. If
so please send me a mailing address and how many you would like to have.
There may be more researchers out there that might just have the clue we
need to find that elusive ancestor. We need to let them know we exist.

Hi Everyone!
Does anyone have the 1860 Census for PA? If so, is there a George about
32, wife Elisa or Elisabeth, child Mary, about age 12 in the city of
Philadelphia?
Thanks,
Linda Parker
Dear Paul,
So glad this bit of information might help. Here is what is given in

William CASTER age 16
THOMAS CASTER age 10
(page 66) Elizabeth CASTER age 52
Margaret CASTER age 13

Hi Tim, and everyone....I apologize, it was late last night when I wrote
this. Please substitute
castor for madduxcousins. That is one of the other lists I have.
Patricia
You can go to the address below and search the archives:
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
When you get to the search page type in madduxcousins and then submit
query. It will bring up another query screen in which you can type the
name you are searching for. There are two databases to search 1999 and
1998. You might want to search them both.
Good luck
Patricia
