Anna Dale Casto, 28, formerly of Ripley, died at her home in Dunbar on Thursday after a
lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Charleston
Sunday with Rev. Hobson D. Fisher in charge and the body was brought to the Fairplain

Clara (Davis) Casto, wife of Rev. Martin Casto, of Staats Mills, died at 8 o'clock
Wednesday morning. Her death was due to internal cancer. Mrs. Casto was 38 years of age.
Her maiden name was Clara Davis. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. N. L. Casto
at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Interment in the family cemetery. (Mountaineer -

Clyde Casto, 86, of Star Route, Red House, died May 16th, 1990, in Americare Putman
Nursing Home, Hurricane, after a long illness. He was a retired construction worker and
farmer. Surviving are daughters: Willidean Boggess, Betty Brown and Brenda King, all of
Eleanor; Patsy Smith of Liberty; sons Carroll of Cheshire, Ohio; Rockford of Eleanor;
James of Gallipolis, Ohio; Thomas of Guntersville, Alabama; William and Clyde, both of Red
House; brother, Guy of Red House; 30 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Service
was Saturday at Mount Zion Church, Pitman County. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Dora Pickens Casto, 82, of 160 4th Street, Dunbar, died Thursday at Smith and Lanham's
Nursing Home, Dunbar. She was a former employee of the Dunbar Glass Plant and
Fletcher's Enamel Company, was a charger member of the First Baptist Church, Dunbar,
and a resident of Dunbar 36 years. Surviving are son: Arthur of Buffalo; daughters: Mrs.
Mary Melton of Given; Mrs. Ava Tucker and Mrs. Willa Carrier, both of Dunbar; Mrs. Phyllis
Beller and Mrs. Hilda Hess, both of Hirricane; Mrs. Louise Shelbe of Orlando, Florida;
brother Leonard of Point Pleasant; sister Mrs. Jenny Stephens of Buffalo; 21
grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Service was held
Sunday at First Baptist Church in Dunbar with the Rev. George Pauley officiating. Burial

Ella (Casto) Bowles -- Funeral Services for Mrs. Ella Casto Bowles, widow of Theodore
Bowles, were held at the Moss Chapel Church on Sunday afternoon and burial was in the
church cemetery. The J. B. Vail Mortuary has charge of the funeral arrangements. Mrs.
Bowles was born at Given on March 16, 1884, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Casto and
spent her life of fifty-eight years in the community. She was widely known and was held
in highest esteem by her friends and acquaintances. She had been ill for some time and
succumed at her home at Rockcastle last Sunday morning. Death had been expected, members

Granvil F. Casto, 71, of Dunbar, died Wednesday in General Division, GAMC, after a short
illness. He was a retired Dunbar businessman. He was a member of the Nitro Masonic
Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Junior Order of Mechanics. He was a lifelong resident of
Dunbar. Surviving are wife, Reva; brothers: Basil, Delbert and Wayne, all of Dunbar;
Curtis of Melbourne, Florida; sisters: Mrs. Lenora Withrow of Dunbar; Mrs. Faye Clendenin
of Melbourne, Florida; Mrs. Wilma Shredd of Ravenswood, and four grandchildren. Service
was Saturday in Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Robert Lett officiating.

John L. Casto -- Funeral services for John L. Casto, aged Belgrove resident, were held
from the home there Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the REv. James Anderson in
charge and burial was in the family cemetery. Mr. Casto, a native of the county, was a
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Casto and had spent his life in the Belgrove community.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Levina Casto; five sons, Kenna of Charleston, Loren of
Ripley, Hoyt and Owen, both of Belgrove and Emmitt at home; four sisters: Mrs. Macel
Parsons of Charleston; Mrs. Elsie Parsons of Ripley; Mrs. Ethel Staats of Wilding; and
Mrs. Opal Litton of Staats Mills; two half-brothers, Ike Casto of Ripley; and Emmitt
Riffle of Point Pleasant. Also surviving are 42 grandchildren and five great

John Lane Casto---Funeral services for John Lane Casto, 3 year old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Owens Casto of Belgrove, who died Jan. 3, 1941, were held at the home on Jan. 4, 1941 with
Rev. A. C. Harpold officiating. He was born Jan. 28, 1938. Besides his parents he is
survived by three brothers and three sisters. (Jan. 17, 1941)

Funeral services for Lillie May Casto, 77, widow of the late Dr. O. J. Casto, Sr., were
held in McPherson, Kansas, Thursday afternoon and burial was in a cemetery there. She
died the previous Sunday night. Mrs. Casto formerly lived at Evans, later moving to
Ripley, and a few years later she and Dr. Casto moved to Garden City, Kansas. She had
been a resident of McPherson Hutchinson, Kansas. Dr. Casto died in 1921. Survivors
include two daughters: Mrs. Frankie C. Babbitt of Hutchinson; and Mrs. Donald C. Crawford
of McPherson; two sons: O. J. Casto of Oakland, California; and Keith Casto of McPherson;

Oma Myrtle Casto, 80, of Given, died Friday in the St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg,
after a long illness. She was a member of Parchment Valley Homemakers Club. She was
Jackson County Belle at the Glenville Folk Festival in 1984. She was a protestant.
Surviving are sons: Alfred Lee of Charleston; Everette Floyd and Paul E., both of Given;
daughter: Rosalee French of Ripley; brother: Marion Bowles of Cahokia, Illinois; sisters:
Retha Turley of St. Albans; Erma Hayes of Dunbar; Hattie Patton of Scott Depot; Velma
Hoffman of South Charleston; Belle Beloit of Silver Springs, Maryland; and Mae Blankenship
of Mansfield, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Service was held Monday
at Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, with Don Barker and Luther Raines officiating. Burial was

Panumbra Plymptin Casto, 59, of Dunbar, died Friday in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a
short illness from pneumonia. He was an employee of Mountain State Construction for 23
years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ripley. Mr. Casto lived in Dunbar
for 12 years and was formerly of St. Albans. He was a native of Jackson County.
Surviving are wife, Jessie L. Anderson Casto; sons, Fredrick Casto of St. Albans;
daughter, Mrs. David N. Combs of Overland Park, Kansas; mother, Mrs. John M. Casto of
Ripley; sister, Mrs. Hildreth Cunningham Waddell of South Charleston; four grandchildren.
The funeral service was at Dunbar on Monday and the burial was in St. Albans. (Jackson

Funeral services for Phillip Casto, age 23, were held from the Fairplain Church Sunday
afternoon with Rev. Harry Miller in charge and interment was in the Shinn Cemetery. The
Vail undertaking establishment of Ripley had charge of the funeral arrangements. The
young man died at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston on Friday after an illness of about a
week. He became ill the previous Saturday and was treated here until Thursday when he was
removed to the Charleston hospital. The survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marie Conley
Casto of Ripley; his mother, Mrs. Flora Casto of Fairplain, and the following brothers and
sisters: Boyd Casto of Charleston; Mrs. Pearl Pringle of Sophia; Mrs. Don Harlow of

Viola Casto, 73, of Dunbar died Monday, Oct. 4, 1993, at Thomas Memorial Hospitla
following a short illness. A native of Given, she had resided in Dunbar for 52 years.
She was a homemaker. Surviving are brothers: Tom Casto of Poca; Luther "Cles"
Casto of Nitro; and Robert Casto of Malta, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Moss Chapel Church with the Rev. Jerry Bennett
officiating. Burial will be in Moss Chapel cemetery. Friends may call at Keller Funeral
Home, Dunbar, Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to services. (Jackson

Home on Friday afternoon and burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Mr. Casto died at his

the county, a member of the Ripley Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church. Survivors
