Thursday, 2003.0116.2045,EST: Dear Elaine Karr,
Thanx for a nice note. No, I have not heard about the
"Changewater killings." Sounds dreadful, or should I say
'dreadfully interesting'? Anyway, anything you'd like to share about them, I
will gladly read.
Castner's Cutthroats, at least, I have heard of, because my late cousin Harold
Castner, of Damariscotta, Maine, used
to tell us about them and their activities in Alaska during WWII. I've not read the
book, but as soon as I get a few pennies ahead, I'll order a copy.
Just for the record, I represent the Maine line of Castners.
Balthasar Kastner arrived there in the 1750s from Germany.
Most of us, recognizing a good thing, have stayed in the Pine Tree State ever since. No
connections in Pennsylvania or N.J. that I am aware of. Regards, Richard Lyon Castner
