Maybe, just maybe, we can establish a connection. My Kastners/Castners emigrated
from the Black Forest in Germany in the 1750's. They settled on the coast of Maine
and have more or less hibernated there ever since.
But one ancestor of mine went to North Carolina during Revolutionary times and got
involved with the Moravian church there.
{,,,and here we go...) another one left Maine for California during the gold rush
days, but only got as far as Diamond Bluff, Wisconsin. He was connected somehow with the
Mero
family. ...ring any bells?
Are you sure the name is correct? One of the Maine women was named
"Alvina" if I remember correctly. Other common spellings in the area were
"Melvina", "Malvina", "Melviny", etc.
Also, "Mero" {pronounced MEEroh in Maine} was spelled "Merrow"
and several other ways, being a very early name from Cape Cod in the 1600's.
I'd be glad to explore this matter further, if you're interested. Feel free
to contact me directly via <richercastner(a)netscape.net> ...R.C.
