Tuesday, 2003.0114.1515,EST: Dear James Carr,
Unfortunately, the operative word here is "remote". My late cousin, Harold
Webber Castner, of Damariscotta, Maine, used to regale us at family gatherings with
stories (no, I don't know where he got them from; that's the point) about what
happened in the Aleutian Islands during WWII.
Since he was a prolific writer and sometime antiquarian {he left 40+ scrapbooks to
the local library}, he must have had a source, somewhere. I'mtrying to find
it...which is why I will attempt to get a copy from the Wolf publishing people.
For what it's worth, I should say that my particular branch of the family grows
from Balthasar Kastner, who came over from Germany in the 1750's. Seven generations
later, we're still in Maine; although limbs have split off and gone to North Carolina
and Wisconsin and, I think, California...but not, as far as I know, to Pennsylvania or to
New Jersey, where there are many by the name.
I appreciate your courtesy in repling promptly; let's keep in touch. I can best
be reached via <richercastner(a)netscape.net> Regards, R.C.
