Changewater Woman Passes Away.
The funeral services of Mrs. Mahala A. Castner, aged 77 years, widow of the late Daniel
S. Castner, were held at the Changewater M. E. church on Wednesday afternoon at 2
o'clock, after private services at the house. They were in charge of the Rev. E.
Barr, pastor of the church. Mrs. Castner had been ill for some time previously, but for
the past two weeks had been around, until Wednesday morning, when she was suddenly taken
unconscious, remaining in this state except for lucid intervals until her death at 12:30
p.m. Sunday.
Since Mr. Castner's death, 13 years ago, she had occupied her farm at Changewater. On
Monday morning of last week she set out numerous plants. Mrs. Castner was an active
worker in church and taught the only Bible class in Sunday school for a number of years.
She had been president of the
Ladies' Aid Society since its organization 14 years ago, until ill health compelled
her resignation.
She is survived by three daughters-
Mrs. Geo. Rinehart (Susan) of Washington,
Mrs. John G. Simanton (Minerva) of Frenchtown,
Mrs. Grant (Mame/Mary E.) Heed of Washington;
also three half sisters and brothers--Mrs. Geo. Anderson of Anthony, Mrs. Mary C. Wildrick
of Hope,
Mrs. Hannah Thompson of Plainfield, John Hazlett of New York and Victor of Topeka,
Kansas.
