Hello List,
I am new to this list and am hoping some kind person out there can help me!
My 2nd great grandmother stated in her Confederate Widows Pension
Application that her parents were William CASSMAN of Tennessee and Nancy Ann
GREEN of North Carolina. Her name was Sarah Caroline and, according to the
application she was born 07 Oct. 1854 in Little Rock, ARK.
However, I have located her parents and family in Texas and Arkansas and
their surname is spelled different ways in each census record (Yikes!):
1860 Ozan, Hempstead County, ARK census:
CASTLEMAN, Wm. S. 45 M Farmer TN
Mesouni 26 F TN
Ellen 4 F ARK
Sarah 3 F ARK
Calvin 1 M ARK
The family is then found within the 1870 Paris, Lamar County, Texas census:
CASTLE, William 57 W M Works on Farm TN
Maryuss? A. 37 W F Housekeeping NC
Ellen 15 W F
ARK
Sarah C. 14 W F
ARK
Calvin 10 W F (should be Male)
ARK
Susan A. 1 W F
ARK
Rutha S. 4 W F
ARK
Sarah Caroline married my 2nd gr-grandfather, John W. RIPLEY in 1875 and is
listed with him in the 1880 Delta County, Texas census. I "BELIEVE" the
1880 census below, shows her mother and a younger sister living with her
older sister Ellen and her family.
1880 Lamar County, Texas census:
SMITH, James 26 W M Works on Farm TX TX ARK
Ellen 24 W F Keeping House
ARK ARK ----
M.E. 6 W F
TX TX ARK
L.A. 3 W F
TX TX ----
E.J. 2 W F
TX TX ARK
CASSELMAN, Ann 46 W F Mother-in-law TN TN TN
Fronia 14 W F Sister-in-law
ARK ARK TN
Sarah Caroline died 24 May 1954 (just a few months shy of her 100th
birthday!) and is buried in the Mercer's Gap Cemetery in Comanche County,
Texas.
If anyone has any information on William Cassman/Castle/Castleman and Mary
Ann Green, I would sure love to hear from you!
Thanks in advance,
