I think we may be connected, but the long way around. The Castleberry's of
Hopkins Co. and Caldwell Co., KY also descend from Heinrich Casselberry.
My great great great grandfather's name was Elijah Franklin Castleberry.
His parents were William Martin Castleberry and Jenny Fox.
William Martin Castleberry's parents were William Martin Castleberry Sr. and
Elizabeth Smith.
William Martin Castleberry Sr.'s parents were William Castleberry Jr. and
Sarah Martin.
William Castleberry Jr.'s parents were William Castleberry Sr. and Margaret
Davis.
If I am not mistaken William Castleberry Sr. and Paul Castleberry were
brothers...the sons of Henrick Casselberry.
William Martin Castleberry Sr. was the son that sent my branch of the
Castleberry's in the direction of KY. He died in Hopkins Co., KY in 1836.
My Elijah Franklin Castleberry married first to Emily Yates and had a few
children. I'm not sure of the exact date of her death, but Elijah married
again to my great great great grandmother Jemima Lancaster (herself a widow
with several children) by 1869 (in Trigg Co., KY). My great great
grandmother was named Emily Katherine Castleberry and was born in 1870;
however, Elijah had already "left the picture" by the time of her birth in
Jun 1870 and Jemima returned to using the surname Lancaster. The family
story goes that Elijah abandoned Jemima to go "preach in the wilderness" as
he is supposed to have been a Methodist minister....though he was probably
just a lay preacher as I have never found a record of him being
ordained....never found much evidence for his existance period except for my
family's story and his first marriage.
I suspect Elijah went west to IL to join at least one of his brothers that
was already out there. The brother named a son Franklin Castleberry.
So...if you happen to run across any other Franklin Castleberry's...that
might just be mine if you can't place them in your group.

Subject: [CASTLEBERRY] Alabama Castleberry's
I am looking for info on the Alabama line of Castleberry's who
also
desencended from Heinrich Kasselberg, in particularly James Franklin
Castleberry or simply JF. He was the grandson of Paul Castleberry who was
born on the Tars River in Va. and later moved into the Spartanburg, SC
region and his 1st. wife Mary Elizabeth ? JF was the son of Benjamin Thomas
Castleberry and his 1st. wife Basheba White of Spartanberg SC. He was born
in Sept. of 1830 on the way to Alabama. Basheba died in Dec. of 1830. They
had 5 children. Benjamin Thomas married 2. Nancy Gillispie and they had 6
children. The family settled in Lincoln, Ala. JF married 1st. Martha Smith
of Coosa, Co. daughter of Absolom and Ansibel Smith. They had 7 children:
john William born 6-1860; Thomas born 2-22-1865; W. Reily born 1867; James
Jr. born 1868; Sarah L. born 1866, M Della born 5-1870; Charles H born
6-1873. After Martha's death JF moved to Montgomery Co., TN where he
married Matilda Black daughter of micheal !
Black and Prudence Stewart Black in 1875. They had 4 children;
Micheal
Benjamin born 10-30-1879; Minnie M. born 7-1883; Joseph born 3-1885; and
Sallie born 11-1890. JF died in Montgomery Co., Tn Jan. 31, 1901. I would
REALLY love to know if anyone knows of his military service to the CSA and
if so PLEASE share it with me. Any other Alabama Castleberry's out there?
Your Tenn. cousins would like to share genealogy facts with you! Any
Castleberry relative!
