I am a great great great grandaughter of Elijah Franklin Castleberry by his brief, second
marriage.
Elijah Franklin "Frank" Castleberry
born: abt 1819 in Caldwell county, KY
married: Emily Mae Yates on 8 Dec 1840 in Caldwell Co., KY
married: Jemima A. Darnall Lancaster (widow) on 9 May 1869 in Trigg Co., KY
died: aft 1870
Children by first marriage to Emily Mae Yates:
1. Mary G. Castleberry - (1841 - 1916), married Elbert Dyer
2. James S. Castleberry - (abt 1844 - aft 1880) married Nancy
3. Edith A. Castleberry - (abt 1846 - aft 1860)
4. Nancy L. Castleberry - (born about 1848)
5. Emily G. Castleberry - (abut 1850 - aft 1860)
6. Sarah Castleberry - (abt 1854 - aft 1870)
7. William Castleberry - (26 Feb 1856 - aft 1870)
Child by second marriage to Jemima A. Darnall Lancaster:
1. Emma Katherine Castleberry (26 Jun 1870 - 17 Jun 1932) married James Israel Joiner.
The story that survives ... and barely survives at that as I had to find out from a really
old relative that is now deceased ... is that Elijah married and then
"abandoned" Jemima even before their daughter was born in Jun the following
year.
There is also the story that Frank was a Methodist Preacher ... possibly the traveling
variety.
What is true and what isn't is hard to say. It IS true that Jemima raised their
daughter by herself with her children from her first marriage and never remarried. It IS
true that Frank doesn't show up in any other records for Trigg County, KY. The rest
is unprovable.
Now supposedly Frank is buried in the Chestnut Oak Cemetery in Lyon County, KY ... but I
don't have a date. Still searching and would love to talk to other researchers
interested in this line.
