Subject: Hardcastle > Castle...Same family?
Body of Message:
I just found something very interesting at the Clayton library here in
Houston, TX today. It came from a book on the POWELL family. Temperance
"Tempy" POWELL married in Wake Co., NC, 1807, to John HARDCASTLE, b.c. 1783.
An exerpt from this reads as follows [more info as needed]:
"In her will of 1855 Temperance HARDCASTLE left her land to her three
unmarried dau., Polly, Nancy, and Elizabeth...The family cemetery was on this
land according to the deeds...All of this land eventually went to a nephew
William A. HARDCASTLE, who was known as William A. CASTLE as were others by
the year 1900. This W.A. HARDCASTLE was the grandfather of a Vernon CASTLE,
located in Durham Co. He was the son of John and Maria CASTLE (or
HARDCASTLE)..."
Also, there is a copy of the pension for Tempy's father, Robert, that his
wife, Ann, applied for and after she died the surviving children were "Mary
Poole, Clara Poole & Tempy CASTLE"
This is coming as a shock to me that we HARDCASTLEs may be from the
CASTLES or vice-versa. This would help tie into CASTLE Hall as well.
Does anyone have any comments on this? I have posted this on the HARDCASTLE
forum as well.
Thanks, Kelly
