Hi James:
I am obsessing once again with family history. Have been burning the midnight oil - and
have lots of mention of Castles. I am Shirley Weller, my Dad was William Ebenezer Weller,
born Oct. 4, 1900. Daddy was from 14 children! Minnie Pearl Weller was one of his
sisters. I always knew of her, but not a lot about her. Knew some cousins - are you the
Jimmy Castle that my Aunt Ellie (Ellen Wilkinson) raised? If so, you should remember me.
If not, well anyway, last night I found Minnie and Ben's gravesites in Bennington,
Grand River Road, Alton Cemetery. I always have believed that Ben belonged to Lemuel
Castle of Bennington, who was a VERY early settler. Look in his family for your
information. They were all around Bennington, as that was a land grant, I guess, to
Lemuel. He is in all the local histories. Ben was considerably older than Aunt Minnie.
I never knew when she died, but I see that it's 1935, so I assume that my Mom knew
her, too. If we are talking about!
the very same Minnie Pearl Weller, married to Ben Castle, then, if she is your Grammie,
here is another of my burning questions: There was another sister, Mary Weller. I know
she died young. Do you know of her? Would love to find her, and I see no record of
death, etc. It was hard to find Aunt Minnie, and she is right here under my nose all the
while, not even hiding. You just have to know where to look. By the way, on the
gravestone, I read it as "Ben 'J.B.' Castle 1862-1928." You can email
me at seweller(a)gmail.com.
