Per later census records for Mathilda "Mattie", Floyd Dewitt Castle's
mother, she was born in 1859 in Mississippi - NOT 1850. In the 1900 US Census her
husband is listed as Edward R Purvis (b 1873). They married in 1894 in Garland Co.,
Arkansas. Her last name is listed as Hawkins in that marriage record indicating she was
married to someone by the name of Hawkins prior to 1894.
Per the 1900 US Census she had 6 children 4 of whom were living in 1900. She had one
daughter named Mamie (married Spartan Crane)who was born 17 Feb 1882. Mattie was living
with them in 1920 and 1930. The 1900 US Census also lists a daughter by the name of Ida
(b May 1882). Her year of her birth is probably off a year as is very common in the 1900
US Census records. The original record is very difficult to read as far as making out
what Ida's maiden name was. Some list her sister Mamie's maiden name as
Reynolds and her daughter's Texas death record notes her mother's names as Mamie
Reynolds but that may not be the case. Some also list her name as Mary Alice Reynolds
but there isn't a single record listing her name as Mary. I believe her actual name
was Mamie - Not Mary and some may have confused Mamie with another woman (born in Arkansas
the same year) by the name of Mary A Reynolds. Until documentation can be found
proving what Mamie's maiden name was, !
I feel it would incorrect for researchers to list her maiden name as Reynolds...
Additionally, some trees state she married Spartan A Crane in 1893. She would have only
been 11 years old at the time and per the 1900 US Census record they had been married 3
years - meaning they were married in "abt 1897" - NOT 1893...

It is obvious based on the records found for Mattie, she was married multiple times.
