Message Board Post:
Many years ago I bought a blanket chest at a Vermont auction. On the back is inscribed in red paint "Hannah Castal [sic]. Her chist [sic]. 1787 Aug. 29" I found several Castle households in the 1790 Vermont census, but no "Castal" households, and suspect it's just creative spelling.
I'm guessing Castle was her maiden name, and that she was a young woman when this chest was made for her in 1787.
Has anyone come across a Hannah Castle of the appropriate age in Vermont?
Thanks,
David
