For sometime now I have been researching the CASTLE family. Namely Francis b. 1810 & Hannah (nee EDMONDS). They only had two children as far as I can tell, my GGrandmother Sarah Sophia b. 1861 and a son Henry Edmund some years earlier. Francis parents were William CASTLE and Mary HEMSHALL. iN THE 1881 census I see Hannah widowed living with Sarah Sophia in Wood Lane Beverley.
If anyone is researching or has information on this family, I would be eternally grateful. They have proven to be very elusive.

In reply to Mr. Bryce Castle's reply to Eric Stevens' query about Joseph Castle, I hope to shed some light on the confusion of the Joseph Castle's in Russell and Scott Counties in Virginia. The Joseph Castle (b.ca.1783 in VA) and married Eunice/Unice Powers is the son of Jacob Castle, Jr. (b. ca.1749 in Augusta Co., VA) and married Mary Shane.
Now to go a bit further and untangle the Jacob Castle's, this Jacob Castle (b. ca.1749) was the son of Jacob Castle, Sr.(b. ca.1720) who had children by an Indian maiden. To Jacob Castle, Sr. (b. ca.1720) and an Indian maiden was also, born a Joseph Castle (b. ca.1753) who married Jemima Hensley in 1786 in Washington County, VA. To Joseph and Jemima Hensley Castle was born Sarah Castle (b. ca.1786-1876) who married Samuel Salyer.
A book, TOUR THE CASTLE, has been compiled and printed on the castle's of southwest Virginia. For more information on the Castle surname contact me at wfs(a)heartoftn.net.
The early Castle's and Salyer's intermarried and named their children after family members thus creating multiple names that are the same and making for complex research.
Happy Hunting!

One of my relatives (great grandfather) George Washington Castle, was born in New York on 27 JAN 1872. He had three children, Leighton, Ruth, and Blanche (my grandmother). Ring any bells? His father was Gabriel, who I think came from Vt.

Still researching the Castle's from CT and VT, first came to America in 1635, the Kellogg's from MA and VT.
My ggrandfather and family members came to MI in 1849, several uncles a few years before.
Henry was the first to come from England in 1635.
Any information is welcome, will compare to mine and maybe I can help you also.
