Dear Castile Cousins,
This is my first attempt to follow my greatgrandmother's linage. Any help
would be appreciated.
She was:
Sarah "Sallie" F. Castile (b 1849, d. 16 July 1897) ; married
John Charles Jones, b May 4, 1836 Columbia TN., d. 6 May 1912 Holland TX;
Both are buried in Post Oak Cemetery (FM 1123, north of Holland Bell County
TX). John C. Jones had just started his college education when the Civil War
began and he had to fight for the Confederacy. After the war he married
Sallie and they moved from Tennessee to Texas. The family had a large farm
southeast of Temple TX. John C. Jones and Sallie had 13 children. Of the 11
children who survived, there were four brothers and seven sisters and all had
nicknames.
The four brothers (oldest to youngest) were:
- John Gillespie ("Major" or "Crook" - b. 1871 Bell County TX , d
1962);
- Charles.B. ("Dick");
- Oscar ("Dummy" m. Emma Davis); and
- Arthur ("Bill").
The seven sisters (oldest to youngest) were:
- Ada ("Sharpie"); Mrs. Mullins
- Etta Mrs. Mills
- Oda ("Tommie"); Married: 1st Blair, 2nd. Brau
- Ida Mrs. Miller
- Sarah ("Sallie"- Mrs. Glover Breeding)
- Veta ("Becky" - Mrs. Walter F. Garland); and
- Minnie ("Jack" -Mrs. Lowery Glenn Parsons).
Any information on "Sallie" and her ancestors would be appreciated. Thanks!
