<< I have been researching one of the daughters of Benjamin Casterline.
He married Sarah Brown, widow of Deliverance Brown in St. Clair Co IL in
1803.
Their first child was Mississippi Casterline, a daughter born December
1803.
I have a little bit of information on Benjamin that was passed on by
some of his descendants. I believe he had other daughters and possibly
a son but have been unable to get names.
I believe he had a brother named Jonathan who was also in St. Clair Co
IL in the early 1800's.
Can anyone help me?
Mississippi had eleven children and lots of descendants. I've spent
several years tracking them, have even tracked down to living
descendants but Benjamin and his other children have escaped me.

Sharon, Hi!
I may just be bringing up more questions than answers but here is something
that might interest you.
We believe this to our gg gm Caroline, who married in 1870 in Lucas Co.,
Iowa, our gg gf John Daniel Johnson (b. Denmark d. Douglas Co., MO) as one
Caroline Phillips. However, the 1850 Fed Census shows the children to have
been with surname CASTLINE living in the household of Daniel PHILLIPS. Now,
as to whether this is actually a sister and brother living in the same
household as adults with children from both their marriages or whether they
(Daniel Phillips and Catharine) are
a married couple we have not discovered as yet. I had thought that they might
be married based on a marriage record from a neighboring but as yet have no
proof that they are the same individuals but am still looking.
1850 Fed. Census--Lucas Co., Iowa---Liberty township (copy of the original
record I was sent is missing page numbers on both sheets)

CASTLINE, Benjamine 12 M Iowa
" , Elizabeth 10 F Iowa
" , Mary 8 F Iowa
" , Caroline 6 F Iowa (our gg gm, 20 yrs later as Caroline Phillips to John
Johnson)
" , George 4 M Iowa
PHILLIPS, James 15 M Ind.

Family 52
VANMETER, Miles 30 M Farmer KY
" , Nancy 29 F Ind.
", Alexander 6 M Ills
" , Hannah 5 F Ills
" , Lewis 1 M Iowa
Nancy VANMETER was a sister to Daniel PHILLIPS if not also to Catharine above.
Nancy and Daniel were of the children of Lewis PHILLIPS and Hannah (possibly
Funk).
Nancy VANMETER's husband Miles VANMETER dies in the epidemic that swept
southern Iowa shortly after this census. The composition of the broader
PHILLIPS family that were living neighbors in 1850 is hardly recognizable in
the Iowa State Census of 1856, there were so many adults and children die.
Nancy VANMETER remains in Iowa taking care of her own children and those from
numerous families of her deceased brothers and sisters. In 1862 Nancy
VANMETER marries widowed John DANIELS, they move to Beloit, Mitchell County,
Kansas.
My gg grand parents also, followed that trail to Beloit, Mitchell Co., KS.
The CASTLINE children listed above (Caroline who we believe to be our gg gm)
if tradition stands might have been the grandchildren of your Benjamin
CASTERLINE. We are suspecting that the CASTLINE may possibly be the children
of one Elias CASTERLINE but as yet have found no proof.
Can you give us the possible birth and death date of your Benjamin CASTERLINE?
Oh, I did mean to mention that if the above is our Caroline (who married John
Johnson) in all documents that she entered information later, her birthplace
is given as IL and we suspect that that may be correct although not proven
yet.
Likely more questions than answers, right?
Do keep us posted, will you please on anything that you find that might shed
light on our mysterious little family group of CASTLINE children within the
PHILLIPS household.
Thanks for your posting!
