<< Beth,
I may not be of any help but I feel there is a connection! In the
marriage record you cited in st Clair cty Ill for Benjamin there is an
Elias Casterline listed married to a Catherine Morgan 7-14-1838. It seems
probable to me that Benjamin is father to Elias- My great grandmother
Lucinda Elizabeth Casterline was born in Des Moines Cty Iowa in 1836-I
have not identified her father and mother but in the Iowa 1850 census, I
found Lucinda living with Elias Casterline at age 16 there was also two
Benjamin Casterlines in the same area and census there were several other
Casterlines in the same general area of Keokuk county specifically in the
Sigourney area. I have been unable to go to that area and search church
records and other sources but hope too. There is a Jonathan Casterline
that was in both the St Clair,Ill and Iowa Census. Its not much help for
you but I feel they are all related in some way
Good Searching

John, I can't believe this! Yes, I think these
Casterline or whatever they
called themselves are connected. I communicated with your sister long, long
ago before a trip to Florida when she was getting together with you. We lost
contact, I think because one of us lost an email address (probably in a
computer crash, there's been enough around my place). Anyway, I remember
saying to her everywhere I look John has been one step ahead of me.
What I am trying to do now is not only do the research I need to in Lucas
Co., IA records but also the searching for any documents in IL about my g gm
and her siblings at the same time gathering information from the Phillips
family remanents that might have had some piece of info tucked away in their
files or their memory that could give us more to go on.
In all the later documents that I have located about my g gm Caroline
(?Casterline) Phillips Johnson, she states that she was born in IL which of
course, is a direct contradiction to the information in the 1850 Fed Census
Lucas Co., IA about her and her siblings.
John, please keep in touch about this family!
I wonder if you have any theories about the lack of evidence {at least, that
I have been able to find} of any Casterline property records in IL? Did they
all just move to Iowa in mass and never apply for Fed land in IL? It has
struck me as a little perculiar, but then again as this family seems to
vanish at will over a number of different times----it shouldn't surprise us
right?
I'm so glad to have found you two again, please tell your sister I said,
Hello!
Keep searching and remember to tell me when you find something! I will be
glad to do the same! Thanks so much for your note!
