I am descended from Mahitable Casterline Carver, the wife of Lewis Carver. My great
grandfather married her daughter Rebecca Carver and his name was Smith Wixsom. They
married in Fayette Co., IN in 1843 and were divorced in Huntington Co., IN. in 1867. She
is buried in Riverside cemetery in Andrews, Indiana in 1900. Mahitable Casterline was a
sister of John and Ira Casterline of Blackford Co., IN. Hopefully Smith Wixsom was a son
of Shuble and Mary Elizabeth Smith Wixsom of Blackford Co., IN. He is in Shuble's
will but the census of Indiana and New York do not seem to have enough males. He is with
the family though in Blackford Co. Long story. So if Smith Wixsom is truly the brother
of Eliza Wixsom Casterline he then would be the brother-in-law of John Casterline and
Mahitable Casterline, John's sister, would be his mother-in-law. Smith Wixsom was
born ca. 1820 in NY and unable to find his burial but his second wife Sarah Jane Wheeler
Payne is buried in Converse C!
emetery in Indiana as Sarah Payne. Long story again. From the Civil War records of
Daniel Payne, husband of Sarah, seems that Smith Wixsom might be still alive about 1888
but as she then uses the Payne name about 1894 in the Civil War records probably dead by
then. She dies in 1896. Green grass on each side of her. Her son buried with children
of his sister in the next row after Sarah Payne. I presume that none of us can find the
missing links between Loammi Casterline and the first Francis Casterline who came from
France. I have copies of the newspaper articles from Blackford Co., IN. I tried once to
find where Eliza Wixsom Casterline was buried but the cemetery I could find no name on and
not sure I was in the correct cemetery. I live in Ohio and do not get to Indiana much.
When I visited Blackford Co., library the genealogy person was not there. Was told
Elizabethtown cemetery is haunted. The regular library staff did not know a lot more than
to point out the !
corner where the genealogy things were located and the 1840 census which had Shuble Wixsom
and only one other male which should be son Benjamin, thus confusing how my Smith Wixsom
fits in though he is with William Wixsom, son of Shuble Wixsom buying property about 1840
at Ft. Wayne and says of Fayette Co. and Shuble Wixsom bought property in Blackford Co.
about 1839 and was of Fayette Co., IN. The Casterline and Wixsom and Carver were all in
Wheeler, Steuben Co., NY before coming to Indiana probably in the 1830's. The Wixsom
and Carver were in now Carmel, NY area prior to going to Steuben Co., NY and Lewis Carver
might have gone to New Jersey before going to Steuben Co., NY, not sure. Four of his
siblings married Longwells and some went to New Jersey supposedly before going to Steuben
Co. Would explain the Mahitable Casterline marrying Lewis Carver in New Jersey perhaps.
(Book of Longwell by the now late James Longwell) Library closing, I do not have a
computer, must g!
