Once again I'm working from Jean Brown's Book Casteel Research. I'm going to
try and show the "history" of land who it was sold to and passed down though.
pages 15-26
land granted 12 Oct 1713 land patent 10 Dec 1714.
land in Prince Georges Co.....300 acres... called Casteel....Beginning at a
bounded White Oak standing upon one of the Draufts of Piscatway run about 2
miles above Darnalls mill dam...
-- Dec 1742 Edmund Sr sold to Edmund Jr. 100 acres part of land called
Casteel about 2 miles above Mr Darnalls mill dam.
31 Jan 1757 Edmund Casteel sold to Rev. John Eversfield tract of land Poor
Mans Industry being the plantation whereon his son Shadrack now dwells, on the
west side of the Patuxent River, 100 acres.
Editors note: I have been unable to find when Edmund obtained this tract of
land. Could it have been a Dower form his wife Rebecca. Robert Johnson, the
original owner died in 1717 leaving Poor Mans Industry to sons, Joseph and
Benjamine.
8 June 1757 Edmund Casteel convayes to Rev. John Eversfield part of tract of
land Edmunds Frolick on west side of Patuxent River. 26 acres
10 Feb 1756 Resurvey a certain tract of land called Poor Man's Industry
originally on the 10 day 1714 granted to Robert Johnson... 100 acres.....
attact it and vacant land to land called Casteel .
Nov 7 1766 Edmund Casteel sold to Meshack Casteel all of a tract of land
called Casteel and part of Edmunds Frolick Enlarged.
30 Aug 1771 Edmund Casteel to James Mitchell all that part of tract of land
called Casteel part of Edmunds Frolick Enlarged 40 1/4 acres total.
20 July 1796 by Catrin Casteel (Catherine Casteel widow of Meshack) to Eleanor
Rollins a tract of land "Edmunds Frolick"
1 Feb 1795 from Edmund Casteel to John Magruder all that part of tract of land
Casteel part of Edmund's Frolich Enlarged" deceased to his son Meshack, father
to the present Edmund 81 acres.
This Edmund married (1) Ann Pinero and had one daugher Delila Casteel, b. 1
April 1797, from Piscataway Perish Records. He married (2) Mary Hardy
(Hardey 4 Apr 1801, In PG Co. Md.....
On 12 June 1832 Edmund and Mary Casteel, then living in Washington DC
according to the recital of the Deed. whihc conveyed to Ignatiouys L. Hardy,
the Estate called Forest. Pr. Geo Deed Bk AB no 11 p. 432.
In the 1834 city directory of Washington DC is listed Edward Casteel.
gentleman. Casteel's are to be found in the 1850 census of the District of
Columbia.
His will is recorded in the Distict of Columbia.
