Does anyone have a copy of Barbara Yarberry's book that mentions John Casteel
of Russell Co. VA. I was told that John Casteel, the son of Jospeh Casteel and
Margaret Casteel, in the book was listed as b. 1760 in PA. and d. 1850, the
son of Joseph Casteel of Russell County, VA. He was said to have married
Elizabeth Ann McClelland the dau. of Andrew McClelland and Rebecca McClelland.
However Jospeh Casteel Sr only mentions Samuel Casteel, Jane Casteel,
Margaret Casteel, Jospeh Casteel, Jr and McClelland in his WILL and nothing of
a JOHN CASTEEL. (Any Ideas) ?
The fwd Casteel Deeds appear to show this John Casteel, living near Samuel
Strong and Andrew McClelland and Jospeh Casteel. John Casteel then sells his
land in 1808 to Teaque Quillen (nephew of Samuel Strong) and its is witnessed
by McClelland. This Deed appears to indicate that JOHN CASTEEL has moved to
Barren County, KY as did SAMUEL STRONG.
I have found a John Casteel, John Casteel, Jr. and Samuel Casteel, Jospeh
Casteel, Janny Casteel and Samuel Strong in Barren County (now Monroe County),
KY in Tax Records, and 1820 Monroe County Census.
In 1814 JOHN CASTEEL sells his 80 acres in Barren Co., KY to SAMUEL STRONG.
After 1830 JOHN CASTEEL disappears. Any Ideas? Yarberry then lists him in Rhea
County, TN in 1840-1850.
Anyone have anything from the Yarberry Book to help on John Casteel?
Thanks
Dave

If in the course of your Scott/Russell County research you ever come
across any Templeton's or Wigfield's, please keep me in mind. My
earliest Templeton (confirmed) is Thomas Templeton, who wed Mary
Wigfield in 1792 in Surry County, NC. By 1806 Thomas & mary are in
Russell County along Copper Creek, and by 1810, father-in-law Benjamin
Wigfield is on Copper Creek as well. In fact, Thomas purchased land
from Samuel Ewing, atty.
Well, let me know what else I might be able to hunt up for you, and
please keep in touch!!
Sincerely,
Jack
