Subject: some notes for William Cazzell Sr. part 1
Hi Dave,
Thanks for answering my email, I'm excited that you are looking around for
something on William. I thought I'd dig out a few of our groups records
and
send them to you. Maybe some name or place will mean something to
you.
These are the oldest records we have for our William Sr. We've really
been
looking at allied families for several years since we have been at
such a
stand still on William Sr. I'm trying to send these notes in somewhat of
a
timeline.
1820 Floyd County, KY
Rueben Mathews
Thomas Mathews (He is a brother to Rueben and is always near our group)
Teaque Quillen
Obediah and William Blankenship
The background info on Benjamin Burchett is from a gen forum and I haven't
tried to verify it except I have seen the marriage rec for Benjamin and
Nancy
Lewis.
I am serching for the parents of Benjamin Burchett b.CA 1771 who married
Kathy Vahn in Va. then married Nancy Lewis in Floyd Co. KY. He had one son
that I know of George Burchett.
I have the name of Benjamin Father. It is William Burchett born in 1754 in
Lunenburg Co., VA.
Williams parents were Benjamin Hedford Burchett and Eveline Young.
Ok, End of forum postings!
Ben Burchett Aug. 30, 1821 m) Nancy Lewis Floyd County, KY (Thomas Lewis
signed for Nancy Lewis)
I'm including this rec for several reasons. Thomas Lewis also signs for
Judith Lewis to marry William Sr. in Floyd Co, KY (Thomas Strong, Sr.,
son
of William Strong was born about December 16, 1739, in Hanover Co.,
Virginia,
and died in Rockingham Co., North Carolina about 1778-79. He married
Elizabeth Lewis) Have you done any research on Elizabeth Lewis? I wonder
if
Thomas Lewis could be related somehow to her.
PIKE COUNTY, KENTUCKY
Nancy Casteel married James Matthews on February 17, 1825. James Matthews
was
the son of Reuben Matthews; Letter of Consent from William Casstel
for his
daughter, Nancy Casstel to marry James Matthers dated February 7, 1825.
(Nancy daughter of our William Sr.)
June 26, 1826 Deed Book C, page 20, Floyd County, KY, Benjamin Burchett
sold
20 acres on Johns Creek to William Casteel for $200. Land lying
between
said
Burchett and Rueben Matthews and near Samuel Bazwells and John
Spriggs.
(this William is our William Cazzell Sr.)
William Cazzell Sr. had five children at this time with unknown wife that
we
have identified.
1. William Cazzell Jr. born about 1805 in Northhampton, VA (I have been
unable to verify where the information for the birthplace of Northhampton,
Va
came from, it's made it's way onto the family file)
2. Nancy Cazzell born between 1806 and 1808 in VA
3. Peggy Cazzell (Margaret) born between 1813 and 1821 in ?
4. Joseph Cazzell born about 1816
5. John Henry Cazzell born Dec 27, 1818 in WVA
Dec 12, 1826 Floyd Co, KY - William Cassell marries Judith Lewis, bond by
William Cassell and Thomas Lewis. (This is our William Sr.)
Sept 17, 1828 Floyd Co, KY Deed Book C, page 122
William and Judith Casteel sell the land bought from Benjamin Burchett in
1826 to James Matthews (now their son-in-law), land on Johns Creek near
Rueben Matthews, Rueben Collinsworth and Benjamin Burchett. Proven in
court
by witnesses - Thomas Stewart and Rueben Collinsworth, to be the hand
of
named William Casteel. John Hackworth also a witness.
I'm going to finish this tomorrow! I'm not an orderly record keeper, my
notes are everywhere. But doing this is getting them somewhat organized!
Thanks again!! Marsha
