Does anyone have any stories of the Tenn. Casteels from older days that
might be interesting to share? For example, I seem to recall that one of
the shared stories was of a lady who knitted socks and that was her one past
time and she knitted thousands of them. Perhaps something like,
Uncle...... caught.....with......and it was the biggest in the history of..
or, Aunt.....won.....prize for.......favorite.....pattern,jam, knitting,
sewing, garden, songs.....etc.etc. Or in 17-- or 18--, something strange
or something wonderful happened and it was the talk of the town... Old
Betsy, the cow, .......
anyway, it might put a lot of life into our ancestors with more than just
names and dates.
Marta, I have several sheets of info regarding the cival war pension request and several
census sheets on my site. I do have have a couple of stories that had been published in
other sources on the web in my "History" files on my family site. Such as a
Casteel family in GA being wiped out by the Cherokee Indians. The son, I believe came back
to the little cabin and found his family dead. I have several bits of info such as where a
couple were married, Robert Castile and Emaline Ogle in Joachim Township, Jefferson County
MO. In 1850's. I can't name exact dates right now as I am going off the top of my
head.
Would you like an invitation to my site? You can add anything you would like. I am still
sorting out info by family names. So you'll still find some Castiles in the
Green's or other names. You can even take a look at my family tree.
Make sure you let me know in the subject -- "request for invitation to family site
for Casteel's" I don't want to accidently delete you!
Our Casteel/Castile line has curly hair and blue eyes. (most of them anyway) some have
brown. But they all have the same kind of nose. Anyway, I have found our connection to the
'Flemish" Castiles of Flanders France dating back to the 1600's. We have
pirates in our line as well! Another story.
Anyway I looked up some "Castiles" in Flanders to see what they looked like. I
was shocked when I found them as you could tell they were related to our Casteels/ there
is no denying those guys. They look very simuliar.
As I said there are alot of story's. Queen Ann of England hired Cpt. Du Castell to
pirate the French ships during the war for her. Remember his background was Flanders.
There are alot of stories about him on the net. You may find our connection on the
Census(s). Let me know ok?
Good Luck! Colleen
