I missed the line of conversation on this one. However, my wife descends
from Thomas CASTEEL and Rebecca NATION. I do have some information on this
couple and photographs.
Regards,
Lance

Thanks Betty for the additional Thomas. I did a little "digging" and
"poking" around and found some information concerning your Thomas. I think
I've connected him to a Maryland Casteel line. At the very least, maybe some
clues to prove or disprove:
Here is the proposed line:
Edmund du Chastel del Blangerval (m.Christian Bom)
Edmund Chastel/Casteel II (m1: Johanna/Hannah; m2: Mary Amos)
Edmund Casteel (m. Rebecca William [maiden name questionable])
Shadrack Casteel (m. Laurena)
Pvt. Thomas C. Casteel (m.Margaret Shelling [questionable])
John Casteel (m.Margaret Friend)
Thomas Casteel b.abt 1818 MD d. 1904 NE (m1. Rebecca Nation; m2.Mary Ellen
Friend)
Your Thomas' grandfather, Pvt. Thomas C. Casteel [Rev. War], and his wife
Margaret Shelling had the following children [not in any order]:
1. John (m1. Rebecca Nation; m2.Mary Ellen Friend)
2. Thomas (m1.Rutha Dicken; m2.Susannah Bottomfield)
3. James (m.Sarah/Sally Sparling)
4. Shadrack (m.Elizabeth Dewitt)
5. Jeremiah (m.Malinda "Linny" Spurgeon)
6. Nathaniel (m.Jane McMullen)
7. Meshach (m.Mary Critchfield)
8. Archibald
Your Thomas' father, John Casteel & his mother Margaret Friend are buried in
Baker Prairie Cemetery in Petersburg, Menard Co., IL. His mother Margaret
died in 1865, and his father John died in 1870. Also of note is that your
Thomas's brother - James - and his wife Abagail Doran had a son named James
and he was born in Menard Co., IL as well. This definitely fits your Thomas'
migration to Menard Co., IL. According to your timeline, your Thomas was
living in Menard Co., IL in 1870 then he shows up in Nebraska in the 1880
census. It looks like he migrated there after the death of his father John
Casteel in 1870.
Well, this is just a theory, but hopefully it can give you some ideas to
think about.

I'm mixed up. Which Thomas married Ruth Dicken?
Which Thomas married Susanna Bottomfield?
One was the son of Jesse and the other was the son of Thomas C.
(brothers)
If I have this right.
Can anyone set me straight?
Priscilla
