Thank you for sharing the notes from the old newspapers. Even if they are
or are not one of our own, they are interesting to read. Especially for
those of us who are long distance and don't have access to those notices
from the long ago. The thought of having to bring your own 'porker
weighting over two hundred pounds' instead of a quick trip to the grocery
for a five pound roast is amazing.
I believe this might be Emery Conda CASTEEL b Sep 1859 Bedford, PA,
son of John Wesley CASTEEL. This is not my line, but thought someone
might be interested.
From the:
Bedford Gazette (Bedford, PA) October 3, 1902
"On Monday Edwin Hartley sold twenty-five porkers to Conda Casteel,
their average weight being 217 1/2 pounds."

The Bedford Gazette, Friday April 30, 1909
PA
"April 27 - Saturday night Mrs. Shadrack Casteel was invited out for
the evening and later on was sent for, telling her that she had
company. On arriving home she found her house crowded with her
neighbors and then she discovered piled on the table goods that would
amount to about $30. Mrs. Casteel is a widow with four small children
and rather delicate in health."
Not mine. Hopefully this helps someone.
