Hi girl!
Did you receive an invitation to the KENTUCKY CASTEEL FAMILIES websight? I
ask because for some reason only half go out, MyFamily is working on it. Let
me know.

Carolyn,
I have reason to think my Unknown CASTEEL was from KY. She m. Hollister
DEWITT, b. 1811 or 1815, and lived to be 101. Since talking to you I have
learned that his mother was Rebecca ALLEN (SHEPHERD?) b. KY, 1792 or 1794.
That suggests a possibility that he married a lady born where his mother
was.
His father was Wm. DEWITT, b. PA, 1789. William's parents were
Paul
DEWITT
and Charity HOFFMAN who were in MD, VA, KY, PA, and OH.
My best clue as to my CASTEEL grandma, though, is that John CASTEEL,
thought
to have been Indian John himself, was in Delaware Co., IN., right
next to
Shelby Co., IN 1830 where Wm. DEWITT settled. Where was Indian John
before
IN?
Still, with Indian John making it to 113, and Hollister making it t0 101,
a
blood relationship is suggested. Maybe his CASTEEL wife just knew
what to
feed Hollister?
No doubt about my Indian blood though it was kept secret from 1878. My
sister is taken for full-blooded Indian and I get taken for a half-breed.
I
have found a slew of cousins who knew early on that they were part
Indian.
I think we got our Indian blood from several sources besides
CASTEEL--maybe
WEAVER, ALLEN, SHEPHERD and BRAY.
