There is definitely Indian blood among some Casteel families...but it is so
hard to trace. We know we are of Native American descent but are not sure
which line. Possibly our Casteel-Eddings line...but the brick wall is....
Dr. Samuel Eddings Casteel b. 1813 East TN. His mother was Sarah
Eddings...Father an unknown Casteel. Anyone out there heard of parents for
this man???? :)
The Eddings name has known Cherokee links and links to the Weavers. But we
don't have any info. on that Eddings line.
Just a couple of factoids here...
Casteel is also considered a common Melungeon name. Melungeons are a
tri-racial isolate group from VA-TN-KY area. They are variations of
mixture of Irish, Scotch, Portugese (proven by DNA testing), Native
American, African...probably Angolan, Quite possibly Turkish with some
other European lines thrown in.
There are some genetically-linked diseases that run in some Melungeon lines
also...such as Familial Mediterranean Fever (Fibromyalgia is one symptom).
Happy ancestor hunting,
Elizabeth
