Hi Janice,
If Peter and Martha migrated to IL, that is the same migration pattern as my
Barney and Margaret DEWITT. Then they went to York Co., Nebraska about
1870-ish with Margaret's daughter, Mary E. and her husband, Ellis S. FRIEND.
Barney and Margaret died there in 1905 and 1906.
I wonder if Margaret was Martha Ann's sister? She was born about 1834-35,
according to census records.

Lyn, I've got just a minute here so this is what I remember in
my
head...........they moved from MD to either ILL or OH, then on west to
either Nebraska
or KS ....but in 1890ish they went to OK for the land rush, Peter got
malaria
as many were sick with it, he refused to take the Indian remedy (green
coffee beans) and died. Can't remember where Martha Ann was for the next
few
years but she ended up in Bonner's Ferry, ID living with her daughter.
She died
there in 1916.
I have no info on her birth parents, except for two family stories....one
that they were killed by whites and the children taken ..........the other
is
that they were killed by a neighboring band of Indians and somehow ended
up in
the DeWITT household. She used that maiden name when she married Peter.
that's all I can remember,
thanks,
Janice
