Subject: Du Chastel De Blangerval
Dear,
> I'm not used to write English text, soo forgive me all the
errors! And I could not translate all the french words!
Looking for a Philippe Du Chastel de Blangerval who was since 1584 lord of Potegem,
Eertbrugge, etc in Waregem (Flanders, Belgium) I found your site.
Here is what I have about the family Du Chastel de Blangerval.
If I find more I will send you my finding!
Filips Benoit,

1. Blagerval is a small village in France, Pas-de-Calais, between Abbeville and Arras.
Look for 'Blangerval-Blangermont'
The title 'de Blangerval' is very seldon used soo I think your Edmond (Du
Chastel De Blangerval) Casteel must bee a descendent of those following here
2. The family du Chastel is certainly originated from North-France. They certainly hold
the French language.
Even French and some Dutch nobelty had French a there native language.
There was a massive input of French people from all classes at the end of the 16e
century.
Protestants went to Holland, England, etc and were replaced by French catholics.
Flanders was reconquered for the catholic Spain Crown with the help of French and
Wallon nobelty.
It is possible your Edmond was on a ship with Flemish or Dutch salors ( both speack)
the same language and they had allready translated his name.
If yout translate 'du Chastel' in flemish or Dutch you have 'van de
Casteele' or 'Casteels' ( from the Castle).
3. On 8.1.1547 Jacques du CHASTEL, Chevalier and Sr de Blangerval était lieutenant du
bailli de Lille
Ses enfants furent déchargés de tutelle le 10.1.1576 ( his childer were declared major
on 10/1/1576 )

So there must be more on this family in the archives of Lille, Pas de Calais, France
Even the acquisition of Potegem, etc in 1584 was registered in Lille and in the French
language.

L'année suivante, celui-ci obtient de Philippe IV d'Espagne des lettres qui
font d'Ere le centre d'une baronnie.

l'enfant de ce couple, Madeleine-Charlotte,
