I have Casteels and Spurgeons living in what is now Garrett County, MD in
the early 1800's. Both families came from Bedford County, PA and the
Flintstone area of Allegany Co. MD. Look at a map and you'll see how close
all these places were.
One of them, Elsie Casteel, married a Jeremiah Willison.
Another of the Spurgeons married into the Browning family who lived in the
same area of Flintstone. The Spurgeons moved to what is now Garrett County
near the Friendsville area early in the 1800's. With them was their nephew,
Meshach Browning, who later in life wrote a good book, FORTY FOUR YEARS IN
THE
LIFE OF A HUNTER. It told all about his relatives, especially Uncle
Spurgeon.
Recognize anyone here?

- LOOKING FOR DESCENDANTS
I have Jeremiah Casteel and Linny Spurgeon as my 4th great
grandparents.
In 1850 it seems that their daughter Rachel who was married to a
Fisher had
to split her family up - not sure why and trying to find out. Fisher
children are among a number of families (both Spurgeons and Casteels) in
both PA and (West) Virginia. Does anyone have information on Rachel Casteel
and a Fisher being married in (West) Virginia?
Thanks!
