I had hoped some others from this line might have answers to some of my questions.? For
instance, when did James Nowlin Casteel become Mormon? Was he 1st, 2nd, 3rd generation
Mormon?? I understand his father, Jacob Israel Casteel went to San Bernardino Co., CA, as
did others, during a Mormon migration from Salt Lake to CA.
No, I do not have any information that would lead me to believe James N. had more than one
wife, but I haven't finished a long article another researcher sent me recently.?
Perhaps there is something in there.
I, also, base the 1 wife theory on the picture of his daughters that I sent you some time
back.? We can account for them on the census' and on the backs of the pictures, it
does not indicate that "??? was daughter of James Nowlin Casteel and wife #2,?
???"? So, either he only had one wife, or when the daughters got together for that
1919 Christmas gathering, only Bridget Marinda Weaver Casteel's children and
grandchildren attended.
Unless, we are all mistaken as to the parentage of the children attributed to James and
Bridget, or until we find out otherwise, I tend to believe Bridge M. was the only wife.
If someone else has information on this, I would certainly welcome the stories.

Interesting question, Nita!
Do you know if Jameson Nowlin had more than one wife?
I do remember one nice personal website a few years ago about a female
Casteel descendant who married a Mormon and went west.
I can't remember her given name at present.

The fact that this Casteel/Castile had more than one wife raises a
question for me.
Am I and one other from the same line the only Casteel descendents who had
Mormons in their background?
I am not certain when my Casteel actually became Mormon.? He, James Nowlin
Casteel, married Bridget Marinda Weaver and I have read that the Weaver
family converted to Mormonism and moved north to join the movement before
they began to move west.
I have never read, heard or been told that James Nowlin's parents were
Mormons.? Any info on this?
Thanks
Nita Fry

Subject: [CASTEEL] Missouri Castiles / Casteels -- alot of names and
relations here.
?
?Well cousins, I worked on this for about 2 hours. I have alot of names
listed
here for Casteels and Castiles. I know for a fact my grgrgrandfather was a
Casteel on one census and then became Castile. I have the census sheets
some
where. Now my great grandfather Allen Castile?went to live in Marine Ill.
for a
while married Adeline Abert. They had two kids, my grandfather and his
sister.
He left them and remarried another two more times while keeping his first
marriage a secret. Its a shame because its been so hard to track. But
thank
goodness I was able to find his death and census records including his 1st
marriage record and all the rest to prove - yes he had been married to
Adeline
Abert who later married Guthrey.
?
I hope the following information is a lead for some one out there! Its all
from
