Subject: Re: [CASTEEL] Thomas b abt 1815 MD s/o Archibald???
To: casteel(a)rootsweb.com
Hi Jerri,
I was doing a bit more digging on Archibald married to Susan
DeWitt
vs. Susan Sisler. I emailed a fellow researcher who knows quite
a bit
about the Casteel's and DeWitt's. He owns land that had belonged
to
Thomas and Margaret (Friend) Casteel until they sold it in 1870.
I'm
not sure of the exact location, but it's in the area that
the
Casteel's lived in Allegany, MD. His wife is descended from
Elizabeth
Casteel, daughter of Jesse & Nancy (Teets) Casteel, s/o Shadrack
and
Elizabeth, son of Thomas and Sarah Ann.
I received an email from him just the other day in answer to
my
questions regarding who Archibald is. This is his response. Tell
me
what you think, please.
Priscilla
I did some research on the Arch Casteel(s) you mentioned below
and I
did find that Arch b. 1812, that moved to Wood Co. did indeed
marry
Susan Sisler. Found a death registration for Caroline
their daughter
who married Edward Foreman, which gave the connection.
I still believe that the Arch who married to Susan DeWitt was
the son
of Shadrack, as he was born in 1803 and the census records for
him
with Susan DeWitt and afterwards at Sang Run and Johnstown
(Hoyes)
area point to this birth year. “Hoye’s Pioneer Families of
Garrett
County”, page 134, has listed under Shadrack Casteel s/o
Thomas:
“Archibald, who m. Susan, dau. of Peter DeWitt”.
Shadrack Casteel’s older brother Jeremiah seems to me to be
the
logical father of the Arch who married to Susan Sisler.
Jeremiah had
a tract of land in Preston Co. between Hazelton and Glade Farms,
very
close to the Md line. But, hoping someone has or comes up with
actual
proof…
It appears to me that Archibald and Susan DeWitt didn’t have
any
children.
