Just a reminder of a hard learned lesson in genealogy!
It is vitally important to make note of and check out the original source of obtaining the
names, dates, locations, and other important occurrences in piecing together a family
line! This is especially true with the CASTEEL surname for several reasons including:
a.. frequent use of the same given names
b.. migration patterns
c.. early arrival in America
d.. excessive careless and poorly documented information has been published and repeated
as fact.
Therefore, I believe it is necessary to track down and evaluate the ORIGINAL source of all
specific information regarding the early families of Casteels. This is a slow and
difficult task that must be done if we are ever to know the real truth!
Just because we or someone "has it" stated a certain way does not make it so!

I have found some more information on the Casteel's since this email so I
have changed a few things:
Shadrack (1780 - Prince Georges MD) married to Elizabeth unknown but I don't
have a marriage date
children:
Archibald 1803
Elizabeth 1805
Meshack?
John ?
Jeremiah ?
Rebecca ?
Thomas 1814
Nathaniel 1818
Does this help?

Betty,
Could you email me Shadrack's (1780) children and their BD and his
marriage date. What I have doesn't add up.

I think I have traced my ancestors back to Edmond DuCastel of
Philadelphia
PA born in 1668. I am not so sure of the middle of my tree:
I have Edmond DuCastel's son as Edmond Casteel II, his son Edmond Casteel
III, his son Shadrack Casteel, his son Thomas Casteel born in 1753, his
son
Shadrack Casteel born in 1780 in Bedford Cty PA, his son Archibald
Casteel
born in 1803 in Garrett MD.
Any information on any of these Casteel's?
My grandmother was a Casteel whose father started a little town in NE
where I lived in later years. The Casteels seemed to be pioneers
throughout
history!
