Hi Mary,
I have had difficulties with the computer service of late...I hope it did
not seem I was ignoring your reply. I don't have the computer operating
that has my files but in going through my attic I found some books from the
1880s inscribed Grayson Casteel (his wife was Verna). The books were given
to my sister when she was young as her middle name was Casteel so clearly he
was a "cousin" of my Grandfather Homer Brett of Meridian.
The artist Homer Casteel of Meridian was our cousin also...he communicated
fairly regularly with my father.

Elizabeth, It is exciting what you have shared about Morris Casteel and his
son Samuel Eddings Casteel & Morris' wife Sarah Eddings Casteel
Edmund had a son Morris Casteel in AL in the Estate papers.
On 29 May 1828, Deed transferred Monroe Co.(TN?) Monroe Co. TN was next to
McMinn Co. TN. - Morris Casteel grantor to John Dyer grantee. Page #54 - 78
acres, range 3, Twp. 1, sec. 5, southwest corner. The above section of land
appears to be northwest of Madisonville in the area between Fork Creek and
Bat Creek. Deed registered 25 Jun 1828. The sale of this land must be how he
paid for the AL land which was a cash sale.
M. Casteel was in DeKalb Co. AL on the 1830 census.
Morris Casteel was in Dekalb Co. AL on the 1840 census.
Morris Casteel was in Pontotoc Co. MS on both 1850 and 1860 census.
Couldn't find him after 1860. I went to Pontotoc Co. MS and the will book
for 1860 thru 1870 is missing. Maybe he died in Meridian, MS.
My gt gt grandfather was Abraham Calloway Casteel who married Isabel Simpson
in AL in 1840. According to Isabel's obit. (Neither obits for A.C. nor
Isabel lists parents or children. All ten of their children had predeceased
them.) They had a child in MS in 1848 and then to AR on the 1850 census.
The migration pattern of my Abraham Calloway Casteel coincides with that of
Morris. (Other than to AR)
Do you have other children for Morris and Sarah other than the ones listed
on the 1850 census? I wonder if my A.C. Casteel is the son of Morris and
named for his Uncle Abraham Casteel that was in Union Co. GA or did he move
with his Uncle Morris?
Maybe you can come up with some more answers. Surely would be great.
Any help will be appreciated,
Mary W. Cooper

Hi all,
I just found in a pile of trash in a hamper...(as I'm cleaning out the
things of my recently passed mother.)
In my grandfather's handwriting...
It says that the father of Samuel Eddings Casteel was Morris Casteel of
East Tenn.
As you recall, Samuel was born in 1813 in E. TN and has the
brothers..James Monroe for one.
ALSO: The wife of Morris Casteel is listed as Sarah Eddings b. Oct., 1,
1794 and died Mar. 1, 1875...she4 is buried in Rose Hill cemetery also
with Samuel in Meridian MS.
Samuel had been a medical doctor and then in later life ran a pharmacy in
Meridian.
