At one time if you tested with the "5 year Geneographic Project" you could
transfer to FTDNA for free because FTDNA was partnered with them I believe. I did, years
ago transferred for free to FTDNA. That five years is now up.....believe last year it was
up.

Subject: Re: Transfer from Ancestry to FTDNA
I recently discovered that FTDNA will accept Ancestry DNA results into their FTDNA
program. The following information was sent to me by Terry Barton.
If you know of someone in one your surname projects who tested through Ancestry instead
of FTDNA, this would be an opportunity to transfer the results at a smaller fee rather
than retest through FTDNA.
Also, if someone has tested the National Geographics Genomics project (12 markers),
these can also be transferred to FTDNA data base for a small fee. Upgrades from those
original 12 markers are available through FTDNA after the transfer.

There is a lag in getting results into the system via the transfer. (I can’t see them
yet) It is also important to realize that the $58 fee gives full access to the FTDNA
tools and support, while the $19 transfer simply transfers in results and doesn’t provide
access to the tools. (we can access the results either way and add them to the project)
Here is the transfer page. You can read the various parts:

Subject: Question about transferring Ancestry DNA results into FTDNA
Good morning, Terry,
I haven't had time to make some of the contacts I had intended since our Birdwell
Family Reunion last month. Been very busy around here and will be for about 2 more weeks.
I received a note from another surname participant stating that he was going to be able
to transfer his Ancestry results into FTDNA for a fee and apparently had done so
yesterday.
Is this true, and if so, how is that done and do you know what the fee will be?
I haven't heard back from Don Birdwell regarding his Ancestry results, which
probably will be coming in soon, nor whether he had contacted you about transferring his
National Geographic Genomic 12 markers into the Birdsong/Birdwell project.
Your insight and advice, please.
Nita Fry
