There was a James M. Casteel . who was the son of Elkany Casteel b..
abt, 1806 in TN. Elkany married Christian Eslinger 27 Mar 1829,
Putnam Co., IN. This family lived in Webster Co.,Missouri . Elkany
Casteel was the nephew of my Joseph Casteel m. Elizabeth
Eslinger. Joseph Casteel descends from Zakariah Casteel through his
son Edward.
Census records state that Francis Marion Casteel b. 1853 Iowa, was
the son of Joseph Casteel & Elizabeth Eslinger. He can be found
living with them in the 1850 census of Des Moines Co., Iowa and 1860
census of Texas Co., Missouri. I have some doubts as to his
parentage, since his death certificate lists his father's name as
"Frank" and mother "unknown."
The 1860 census of Texas Co., MO lists the family of Joseph Casteel
& Elizabeth Eslinger living next door to the family of Ephraim Dukes
and his wife Jane Eslinger,
some of the children are Dukes. Three other children are Casteels;
James Monroe, John H. and O.E. (Orie Ellen) Casteel. There is also
an Elizabeth J Casteel in this household who is the mother of these
Casteel children. James Monroe Casteel, b 1852 MO; d. 1930 OK, is
my great great grandfather -- I am searching for his parentage.
I believe that Francis Marion Casteel is related to James Monroe
Casteel, I am just not certain how. The Casteel children living
with the Duke family are the subjects of my research --- Their
father is unknown, but their mother Elizabeth J. Casteel b. abt
1835, Illinois, remarried in 1867, Phelps Co. MO, to Isaac N. McNatt
who is 10 years her junior.. -- I have tried to make sense of this
family, but keep hitting a brick wall.
Thanks,
Carolyn

Carolyn,
My Great Grandfather was Francis Marion Casteel. Joseph Bird (Byrd)
Casteel is
my grandfather. I don't have much info on them, and do not know who
Francis's
father was. But I would be glad to help, and interested in anything
you might
have. I think we have been in contact before on this
