Subject: Edmonds' Wives
"Bart my information on Edmonds' wife came from LDS records. As in any
data it has to be verified, and i have been unable to complete this
task as of yet. All i have is that she was Catherine bn 1722 or 1745
in Maryland. They were married sometime between 1761-1766 in Prince
George, MD. I have no information on the four daughters."
Dennis, I'm confused. Can you tell me which Edmond this is? Thanks,
Anita
Hello,
In my earlier post I failed to mention that the census was in Knox Co.,
Tennessee.
The other important note is that Francis, Daniel and Abednego were
basically neighbors on the original census page with 2 households listed
by the census taker between Francis & Abednego then 1 between Abednego
and Daniel.
Also, along these lines of relative closeness - I found a couple letters
from past correspondance with other researchers, and one has the
relationship of Daniel and Abednego as brothers, both sons of Francis.
No citations for the relationshsip were given. This fits 'logically'
with how they are mapped out on the census pg described above, but....
Can anyone confirm or disclaim this connection.
Thanks so much for everyone's assistance.

Tennessee County was abolished in 1796; its records are included in those of
Montgomery Co., which was formed in 1796 from Tennessee county. Robertson
was formed in 1796 from Tennessee & Sumner; Dickson was formed in 1803 from
Montgomery & Robertson; Stewart was formed in 1803 from Montgomery; Hickman
was formed 1807 from Dickson; Humphreys was formed in 1809 from Stewart; and
Houston was formed in 1871 from Dickson, Humphreys,

Casteel researchers, who have Williamson Co., TN in their research material,
take a look at where the above counties are located.

Hello,

Good Morning,
>From the 1830 Knox Co. census I found the following,
Francis Casteel household: 1 Male 70-80yrs
Females: 2 - 20-30; 1 - 30-40 & 1 - 70-80
Abednego Casteel household
Males: 1 - 10-15; 2 - 15-20; 1 - 20-30; 1 - 40-50yrs
Females: 1 - 0-5; 3 - 5-10, 1 - 20-30; 1 - 40-50yrs
Daniel Casteel household
Males: 1 - 0-5; 1 - 5-10; 1 - 30-40yrs
Females: 2 - 0-5; 2 - 5-10; 2 - 10-15; 2 - 15-20; 1 - 40-50yrs
James Monroe Casteel would have been 18yrs old in 1830 placing him in
the 15-20yr male column which matches Abednego's census record.
Anita,
I got your file. Haven't figured out how to read it yet :)
Let you know later if I can't work it out.

Terri,
THE FRANCIS CASTEEL FAMILY, compiled by Lois P Allen 1978, page 3:
This compiler has reason to believe there were other children born to Francis
Casteel, although only these seven (I posted the seven children earlier) were
actually named in his Will. Quoting from the Will,......"the balance of my
children I have portioned them of heretofore."
The 6th child of Francis Casteel was Mary b 1801 m Daniel Wills. According to
Allen, "No rec found of children born to this couple. In her will Mary names
her sister Charity's three children, Daniel Casteel's children ......"
I have no other information on the Francis Casteel family other than the Allen
book.
And I don't have a copy of Jean Brown's book. But spent just a few minuted
looking through a copy and as I recall, Jean did not draw conclusions unless
they were obvious. She amassed what was probably for the time the largest
collection of Casteel records and published them. Her book is on microfilm
available through the LDS Family History Centers, as I understand it. I do
have a few pages and it was those pages I posted the Abednego of Boteourt Co
VA.
I am trying to get posted the Casteel records (what I call "spare Casteels")
that I have accumulated in hopes they won't be spare to someone on the list.
I just post whatever information I have and maybe someone will connect.

List friends,
I am trying to determine the date and place of death for Abednego and
Agness Casteel in the hopes I can locate a court record or will that
will aid me in determining if James M. Casteel is one of their
offspring.
I have Abednego in the 1830census of Knox co.
I also believe that I have located Agness in an 1850 census TN index.
Listed in the index as follows
CASTUL, Agnes59, Hazy 26, Amanda 24, Eliza 22, Adaline 19, George W. 30,
Va T, Bo-1216-168
Va would indicate the Agness was born in Va and T refers to the
birthplace of the second person listed, Hazy.
Bo = Blount co. followed by the household no. and the handwritten pg
number on the original schedule.
So we can logically guess that Abednego died between 1830-1850 and
Agness after 1850.
Has anyone found Agness in 1860? Or Abednego and family in 1840?
Thanks for the help!
Terri Casteel
I was wondering if anyone in their search through 1860 census data for
Casteel ancestors, might have come across a James M. Casteel & family.
I know many times I note other Casteels I find when scrolling though

He was born Feb 1812 so would have been abt 48 yrs.
Listed with him would be

Jane abt 25y
Joseph 24y
Ruth 21y
Richard 17y
Martha 15y

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any idea where in Ohio?
Do you know where/when he died? Did his death record or obit list his

I'm here in Ohio and might run across something that might help you if I
had a clue as to where to look.

Does anybody connect to this family or have any info to link Ferriby?
My ancestor was Ferriby Casteel, born 1823 in TN (according to later census
information). From census information in southeastern MO, it seems Ferriby
may have had several brothers: Freeland, Green Berry, George, and John
Casteel. Since all were born in TN, I consulted the marriage books and found
a cluster of Casteels who married in east TN, specifically in Rhea Co. The
1840 census of Rhea Co, TN, lists these men, who are probably brothers of
Ferriby. Probably the family migrated to southeastern MO in the early 1840s,
since I know Ferriby's first marriage was in St. Genevieve Co, MO. Her second
marriage was nearby in Madison Co, MO. I do not know how she came to be in
Saline Co, AR, where she married (my ancestor) Cornelius Kuykendall in 1859.
Apparently they were only together long enough to produce a son, James Harve.
Since the family legend says he was born in Hot Springs in either 1859 or
1861, I looked up every Kuykendall/Kirkendall family in AR in the 1860 census
trying to find them. I finally found Cornelius Kuykendall in Saline Co,.
Ferriby was not listed with him, and no other family entry remotely resembled
a one-year-old son with a mother Ferriby. Probably they returned to
southeastern MO, where Ferriby had lived before. According to the 1880
census, Ferriby Kuykendall was living with a son from a previous marriage.
Nothing further is known about Ferriby. Her death date/place is unknown.
As far as her roots in TN, I found a family history in Salt Lake City that
shows a family in Rhea Co, TN, that lists the brothers mentioned above but not
Ferriby. A girl named Mary was born about 1824, so perhaps that could be
Ferriby. The parents of this family were John Casteel (1769-1840) and
Elizabeth Ann McClelland. John supposedly was born in PA, but that's all I
have on him.
Maybe you have come across some of these names in your collateral research.
If you have any information, or any suggestions for me, I would be happy to
hear them.
Thanks,
Barry Underwood
