Rolla,
I'm on vacation so I don't have access to my stored emails, but when I get
home I will post Brent's actual comment. He told me that someone had
submitted to the Official Cassidy Clan their Cassity line which included
our Old Peter and showed him linked to the Andrew>Patrick>etc. lineage that
is shown in the Clogher register. So he asked me what proof of this we had
and I told him none that anyone has ever shared with me. He then made a
statement in essence that he seriously doubted that our Old Peter was of
that particular line, but I certainly don't think he meant that we are not
originally from the Fermanagh area. Much as you could be a Cassity from the
Bath County, KY area, but not be directly descended from David Cassity and
Elizabeth Blair.

Hi Linda et. al.,
I am most interested in following up on your last statement where you
stated
"Brent Cassidy,
who runs the Official Cassidy Family Genealogy site told me that it was
highly unlikely" that our
Peter was connected to this well-known Cassidy line cited in the Clogher
Register."
I wonder if you might elaborate in this, especially in light of the DNA
results that show that there are different unrelated descendants with the
surname "Cassidy" or "Cassity" that I assume all
believe that they trace
back to the County Fermanagh area of Ireland. Although there are
many
reasons that may account for this, even without the DNA, these various
lines
show no documentary linkage with each other in the past.
Specific to the Cassity line down from Peter, we do know that this line
did
have a connection to the Armstrongs in the past, as well as the
Thompson's,
and in the area of Ballycassidy, the Armstrong, Cassidy and Thompson
names
have carried forward in close proximity in this area of Ireland at least
into the 20th century. So is it my interpretation of Brent Cassidy's
comment
that the Peter Cassity descendants are probably not connected in
anyway to
the Cassidy's mentioned in the Clogher accounts, and perhaps not connected
to the Cassidy's buried on Devenish Island. Set me straight!
I'm still learning and trying to figure out the known known's from the
known
unknown's, so forgive me for sounding ill-informed - cause I am.

Anna,
I'm interested to know more about this will. Could you tell me how to find
it?
Several years ago, I was contacted by a man who told me that my Peter
Cassity (born est. c.1725) was the son of Cornelius (Neil) Cassity, so I
researched this extensively. In the end, this man admitted that he was
wrong, but we agreed that there could have been some connection between
Cornelius and Peter, possibly as brothers. However, by that time this man
had already sent his Cornelius speculation to many libraries and
historical
societies, so it still crops up as "fact." At the
Cassity/Cassidy
Family
Association website I posted an article I wrote on this issue.
http://www.cassidyfamilyassociation.org/pvn.html
There is no evidence to connect the Peter Cassity, Sr. of old Augusta Co.
VA
to the Andrew who is shown in the LDS records. I discussed this with the
son
of the man who submitted that ancestry and after he searched through his
deceased father's files, he concluded that since his father had cited no
documentatiion for this, it was likely just speculation.
This William Allen was also the man who originated the idea that our Peter
Cassity married Ann Melissa Armstrong. Though the date of birth, and
parents
he gives for Ann Melissa can be verified, there is no evidence she married
a
Peter Cassity. I believe the confusion lies in the fact that Old Peter's
grandson Peter Thompson Cassity married a woman named Mary Melissa
Armstrong.
Also, Brent Cassidy, who runs the Offical Cassidy Family Genealogy site
told
me that it was "highly unlikely" that our Peter was connected to
this
well-known Cassidy line cited in the Clogher Register.
