I'm sure most of you have already heard of this genetic genealogy project underway.
(Conducted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints [Mormon] but open to all.)
Although my big-brother paranoia whispers some scary possiblities for this project to be
used wrongly, it does occur to me that it could be the only way some of us will ever
continue our lines back beyond our missing link.
For instance, some of us are descended from Jonathan Cassity of Bath Co. KY. We know he is
the grandson of Peter Cassity but we don't know which of Peter's sons was
Jonathan's father. However, there are many who can definitely trace their ancestry
back to one of Peter's four sons. So if this project worked, there's a possibility
that the DNA of Jonathan's descendants could be compared to the DNA of the descendants
of William, David, Peter [Jr.] or John and we would finally be able to say for certain who
Jonathan Cassity's father was.
