George,
We have a lot of information on the Cassitys of Fleming/Bath county
area, but we have none that links them to Michael Cassidy (the usual
spelling). Michael was a lawyer and statesman and owned a lot of
land in that area. I have seen a genealogy done by one of his
descendants and none of "our" Cassitys are included.
The legend is that Michael came from Dublin, as a young teenager I
believe. If I'm remembering correctly, while his older brother
Andrew was trying to deliver him to school, Michael jumped on a ship
bound for America. I don't know if Andrew followed. Michael first
appears in the military records of Virginia, and I believe he
received quite a bit of his Kentucky land by military grant.
Michael was described as very short, dark haired and barrel-chested.
And was said to be a powerful orator.
By the way, we do have Isaac Cassity and Joyce Davis in our CCFA
database. We agree that Joyce's father was Jesse, and Jesse's father
was supposed to be William Davis. If that's true, it's almost a
given that Jesse would have named a son William.

Subject: [CASSITY-L] A tough nut
I've been trying very hard to make a connection that has eluded me
for
some years. Perhaps one of you CASSITY researchers can help me. My
problem is this - my 3g gf William DAVIS, born abt 1785, came from
Fleming Co KY in 1830 to St Louis. I believe him to be the son of
Rev
War veteran Jesse DAVIS of that county but have no hard proof. I do
know this, Jesse, born abt 1752, had a son William.
So how does this tie in with the CASSITYS? Well, Jesse DAVIS also
had
a daughter Joyce, born 1804, who married Issac CASSITY so I suspect
the DAVIS and the CASSITY families may have lived close to each
other in
Fleming Co. In his later years Jesse went to live with them.
Now, my William DAVIS married Rachael BARNES in 1805 Fleming Co.
Rachael's father, Robert BARNES, purchased 200 acres of land in the
county from Michael CASSITY. This seems to imply that the BARNES may
have also been neighbors of the CASSITY and DAVIS families. Since
marriages of that time frequently took place within families that
lived
close to each other, it would lend a lot of credence to my William
being a brother to Joyce.
My question is this: Does anyone on the list know of any connection
of
Issac CASSITY to Michael CASSITY in Fleming Co KY?
Any other thoughts from some of you CASSITY experts?
George
