Yes, I'm talking about the Henry who married Margaret MITCHELL. The
reason I ask is the Clan Kennedy and Kennedy Society of North America
is
willing to admit membership to descendent of CASSELS. I was trying to
verify country of origin of our line. Here is a copy of a letter I
received from Clan Kennedy:
Kennedy
CLAN KENNEDY AND THE DENNEDY SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA, INC.
The family of KENNEDY is traditionally believed to be descended
form the ancient EARLS OF CARRICK, and claim kinship with Robert the
Bruce. They have been associated with the province of Carrick in South
Ayrshire since the end of the 10th century. Then Kennedys were in
Galloway before that period of time. The Chieftainship was first
granted to ROLAND de CARRICK in 1256, and repeatedly confirmed to that
family. It is well known that the old Celtic Chieftanship could only
go
to the male line, which was one of the reasons the House of Lords in
1762 adjudged the title of EARL of CASSILLIS to Sir THOMAS KENNEDY of
Culzean as heir-male to succed DAVID, the first EARL of CASSILLIS. He
is a direct descendant of JOHN KENNEDY of DUNURE. Also, Loch Doon
Castle, originally held by the De CARRICKS, was repeatedly confirmed in
ownership to the KENNEDYS.
Our Society was founded at the Grandfather Mountain Highland
Games in 1973. We have members in 40 states, plus Canada, Great
Britain, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia. We are
incorporated as a non-profit social and historical organization
interested in the Celtic peoples, particularly the Scots, Scots-Irish,
and the Irish Kennedys (however spelled) and their descendants who came
to America. The basic family names are Kennedy, Canaday, Carrick,
Cassillis, and Cassell or Cassels. We also welcome those of our family
who are descended from the branches named Ulrich, MacUlric, or
MacWalrich.
The Kennedy Society is one of participation. We award
scholarships yearly for Highland dancing and for piping. Also we offer
the opportunity to join with others of this great family to socialize,
research and record the stories, names, and places of our history so
that others might be able to find their roots, and os that this
priceless history will not be lost. We are now putting our family
records on computer. Out records are archived at the Odom Geneaology
Library at Moultrie, GA and at the LDS Library at Salt Lake City, UT.
Out Society enjoys the patronage of the 8th Marquess of Ailsa,
(19th Earl of Cassellis) who is the hereditary Chief of KENNEDY.
Wearing the crest-badge with the dolphin encircled by the buckly and
strap identifies one who is a follower of the CHIEF OF KENNEDY. We of
the Kennedy Society are proud wearers of the badge. The clan motto is
'Avise La Fin'; the clan plant is the Oak; and the colors of the House
of Cassillis are Royal Blue and Gold, referring to the time when
Scotland and France were allies. For this reason, the troops of the
House of Cassillis, also wore the Fleur de Lis on their bonnets. The
Dolphin of the Arms of Kennedy are said to relate to connections with
the "Dauphin" of France. A Kennedy led the forces of Joan of Arc in
France.
We invite all persons of Kennedy descent to join the KENNEDY
SOCIETY. Membership requires a $ US 10.00 application fee plus $ US
15.00 annual dues, (for thos outside the United States the dues are $ US
20.00 because of increased postage). For an application write to Donald
G. Canady, Sr, Esq., KCTJ, FSA Scot; 520 Harrison Avenue, Cambridge,
Ohio, 43725-1472.
All the research I've done shows the Cassels to be a Sept of the
Kennedys. I am trying to find out if indeed our roots stretch back to
Scotland. I would really like to have proof of Scottish descent before
agreeing to join the Kennedy Society.

Do you have any information further back than Henry Cassels (his
parents, country of origin, etc.) ?
If you are talking about the Henry who married Margaret MITCHELL
then no, I don't. If you are talking about another Henry then
you've got to be more specific<G>.
