May I have your snail mail address. I need to add you to my source
data and like to be able to find you if you change e-mail address.
I'm a bit confused about your name, also<g>.
tm>E-mail stated Charlotte Jones CASSELS died 1842, GA. She is on
tm>1850 Census Troup Co., GA, in son Benjamin CASSELS household as age
tm>56. Have found no record yet of her death. May have been 1852.
tm>Have not been able to locate her after 1850 census. Still
tm>searching.
Dale; this is for you<G>.
tm>John CASSELS has a note stating some sources show pod as Sumter
tm>Co., GA. Found his will 1816 Jasper Co., GA. Will reread my copy.
tm>He referred to the land he was willing as having been in another
tm>counter when drawn, etc.
tm>A son of Henry & Charlotte Jones CASSELS, (Dr. William Harrison
tm>Mallory CASSELS), stated on 1880 census, Angelina Co., TX, that his
tm>father was born in N.C. Will check his siblings census for 1880 GA
tm>and see what they stated as place of birth for Henry.
We have a problem with the son's name. I show him to just be
another William Henry CASSELS as opposed to your reported William
Harrison Mallory CASSELS.
I'll refer both of these to Dale also as he's my source.
tm>According to grandson of Henry Jasper and Rebecca M. CASSELS
tm>Mathews, Henry and Charlotte Jones CASSELS had the following
tm>children: (Do not know birth order.)
tm>Avington,
tm>Absolom,
tm>Benjamin,
tm>Mark,
tm>Robert,
tm>William,
tm>Alfred,
tm>Nancy,
tm>Rebecca.
tm>(Three of these children married children of Moses Mathews.
tm>Benjamin M:Harriet aka Parry,
tm>Robert M:Sarah Jane Mathews same date and county as Henry Jasper
tm>Mathews and Rebecca Matilda CASSELS.
tm>Sarah Jane stated this on her civil war widow's pension
tm>application. She and Robert had two boys and one girl. They
remained tm>in GA. I am in contact via mail with her grand daughter,
tm>Mary Will Barber.
Do tell me who the others married??????/
tm>The grandson of H.J. & R.M. Mathews mentioned at first of this
tm>paragraph was named "Lee Mathews". He may have been further down
tm>than grandson. He lived in Lufkin, Angelina Co., TX. HJ & RM
tm>Mathews went to TX with my ggrandfather, Dr. William Harrison
tm>Mallory CASSELS from possibly AL having lived in Troup Co, GA a
tm>couple of years before moving to AL.
tm>Lee Mathews corresponded with Alfred CASSELS aka Alford and his
tm>children in Arkansas. These children went to Lufkin, Angelina Co.,
tm>TX and married there. (Have original marriage certificates.) Do
tm>not know where they went from there or if it was simply a trip from
tm>Arkansas to get married. It seemed to be the thing to do then was
tm>to go somewhere to be married. My maternal grandparents did this
tm>as did Dr. William Harrison Mallory CASSELS and Mary Ellen Dearmond
tm>were married in Newton Co., TX not Angelina Co., TX where they
tm>resided.
tm>According to the 1816 Will, Jasper Co., GA, John CASSELS
tm>M:Christian ?) had Absolom (M:Rebecca Jones), Levi, Henry
tm>(M:Charlotte Jones), Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Parry/Pansy as
tm>children mentioned in will.
tm>If memory serves me correctly Elizabeth married a Bishop; Rebecca
tm>M:a Burnsides, and Parry/Pansy m. a Jones. I did not find where
tm>Levi ever married.
tm>Sarah Jane Mathews did not remarry to my knowledge and she lived
tm>with her younger son, Daniel. I do not think he married. Can not
tm>located a marriage record for her and Robert CASSELS other than her
tm>statement on the application for civil war widow's pension. Robert
tm>was killed in action during Civil War.
Thank you very much for all the data. This should certainly start
a little dialogue on this line<G>.
Looking forward to hearing from you and please carbon copy all.
Needless to say if you (or any of you) have e-mail addresses for
other researchers of the CASSELS line please advise so we can "ALL"
keep our address books up to date.
