Further to my November 16 message re son James Cassidy, this message provides what I have
on sons Andrew and William.
Andrew Cassidy (b 1802 Pictou, Nova Scotia, d unknown date or place). Marriage status
unknown. Only available information is a deed buying and selling a 1/5 acre town lot in
New Glasgow, Nova Scotia which states that on June 15, 1830, one Roderick McKenzie sold
the lot to Andrew Cassidy for 20 pounds, and on September 21, 1831, Andrew sold the lot to
John Doul for 50 pounds. The document states "whereas Roderick McKenzie and Andrew
Cassidy, both of East River of Pictou, have built and furnished, in the partnership name,
a certain vessel called the Hasty Return, and in so doing certain debts were contracted in
their joint names, etc., etc." Apparently Andrew Cassidy and Roderick McKenzie were
partners in a ship building business. Hence the need to sell the lot to Doul I guess.
William Cassidy (b 1803 Pictou, Nova Scotia, d unknown date or place). Married but no
information on family. In 1827, William Cassidy, age 24, married, no children, born in
Nova Scotia, resided 4 years in the province of New Brunswick, during which time he asked
for land on the Charles River, Bay of Chaleur (now Restigouche County, New Brunswick).
Based on the New Brunswick Archives, it appears that, during the years 1824 to 1827
several Cassidys from Pictou Nova Scotia resided in the Miramichi area of New Brunswick.
There were 3 James Cassidys there during the Miramichi Fire in 1825 including James Senior
(the Pioneer to Pictou in 1788/1789, his son James, and his nephew James, son of his
brother Pioneer John, who also arrived in Pictou in 1788/1789. Cassidy activity in the
area during that time period - James, son of Pioneer James, married Ann Hay in 1824;
James, nephew of Pioneer James married Mary Ivory in 1827; John requested land in the area
in 1826; William requested land in the area in 1827.
I hope something in the above, although sketchy, will be of help to Cassidy researchers.
