Following my last message of November 23 re the children of James and Martha (Turnbull)
Cassidy, this message provides what I have on their sons Benjamin and Thomas Cassidy.
---Benjamin Cassidy (b 1805 Pictou, Nova Scotia, d April 20, 1873 Pictou); tidewaiter
(customs officer) & native of East River at time of death; first marriage, date and
place unknown, to Mary Mitchell (b 1811 in unknown, d 1847 in unknown); second marriage,
September 24, 1859 in place unknown, to Sarah Brown (b date & place unknown, d date
& place unknown); apparently 5 children resulted from marriages but no information on
them; Benjamin was variously a merchant, ships captain (The Albion), and tidewaiter; 8
land transactions involving Benjamin between 1831 and 1840 per Pictou registry; in 1838
census Benjamin has 5 in household, listed as mariner, and liviing in New Glasgow.
---Thomas Cassidy (b1808 Pictou, d date & place unknown); marriage status unknown;
baptized at age 21, St. James Anglican Church, Pictou; occupation given as joiner; there
was a note re Thomas Cassidy's executors in 1849 at West River. No other information
on Thomas.
