Hello:
I have Ellen Cassidy arriving in St. Johns, NB, Canada in 1830. She was born in 1821 in
Ireland. She married Francis Doherty: b. 1818 in England. He arrived in St. Johns in
1838. They married on July 14th, 1843 in St Malachy's Catholic Church. Witnesses
were
John McCarthy and Mary Ann Cassidy.
Children of this marriage were:
James b. 1844
Francis b. 1845 (he's my ggrandfather)
Charles b. 1847
Margaret b. 1848
Mary Ann b. 1850
Eliza b. 1852
Theresa b. 1853
Ellen b. 1854
The Doherty's moved to Portland, Maine and show up in the 1860 US Federal Census. By
now, Francis (senior) has died. Ellen now has, I assume, her mother with her. A female
named Cassidy is on the census, age 80, born in Ireland.
I have more on this crew if anyone is interested. I would love to find out where they
come from "across the pond".
Happy hunting!
Deborah
