Leon,
This is the book you so kindly suggested I buy to find info on my
McENTAGGART-McINTYRE-NORTON Families & on the very front
of the book it has the following:
CEMETERY MARKER
READINGS
OF
ST. PETER'S
CATHOLIC CHURCH
(also known as Nanny Goat Hill Cemetery)
111 Duke St. (now known as 7th St.)
Reading, Berks County, PA
compiled by
Edgar H. Zimmerman
On a page in the book it states:
ST. PETER'S CEMETERY
READING, PA
St. Peter's Cemetery was founded shortly after the church was
founded by Jesuits from St. Paul's Mission, Bally, PA in 1752, at 111
Duke Street (now 7th Street). The Cemetery continued beside the Church
until 1844, when it was moved to Tenth & South Streets Reading. Other
wise know as Nanny Goat Hill. The Land the Church & the Cemetery
had been located on was sold in 1845 so that a new Church could be
constructed on South & Fifth Street.
NOTE: The first CASSIDY was buried in this cemetery 1 Mar 1821
& the next buried in 1877--other CASSIDYs most likely have been
buried in this cemetery between these years & they no longer have
a grave stone!
Happy hunting, Helen

<< Helen,
Me thinks thou may be a little mixed up with the address of St. Peter's
Catholic Cemetery (also known as Nanny Goat Hill). This cemetery is on the
north side of the Neversink Mountain and boarders South St.at the southern
ends of S.10th, S.11th and S.12th Streets. We always refered to it as the
Catholic Cemetery at Tenth and South. I believe the St. Peter's Church and
Cemetery that were on 7th St. were gone before the Cassidy death dates you
published. Unless you know something I 'm not aware of, there is no cemetery
on 7th St. in the city of Reading.
Happy Hunting,
Leon F. Borst
Chester County, Pa.
